Can anyone tell me about the camp/showcase at unf that was held on dec. 20-21,2003? i was told it was a showcase also, but shouldn't my son have brought back something with some stats or something on it, 60 yard time, outfield report, batting, catching info, something?

Hi, my son attended the camp as well. As far as I was told it was strictly instructional camp - However, I am certain if a player caught their eye, it might result in more. I know that some players were asked to attend by a coach that was in attendance so that they could get another look at them.
This is from their website - "The purpose of this camp is to teach the basic fundamentals, giving each player the foundation he needs to become the best player he can be. Among the topics thoroughly covered are hitting, bunting, fielding, stealing, catching and pitching. Our instructors have coached on all levels of baseball from Little League to professional baseball, and have worked numerous camps throughout the country. Campers also benefit from the experiences and talents of the former college and professional players on our staff. We can help anyone in our camp become a better player."

I understand that is what the website stated, but I spoke to a coach there prior to us attending to find out exactly how the camp was being run, and he told me that this was a showcase of skills, that is the only reason we decided to attend. My son is a senior & is interested in FCCJ or UNF, so we thought this was a good idea after speaking to this particular UNF Coach.

From what I saw it was run pretty much like most "showcases" with alot of instruction, so if he impressed them enough, they will be in touch I'm sure. Just because they don't give written evaluations doesn't mean that a player wasn't showcasing his skills. Also, this is what I was told, UNF signs less kids than most schools and leaves open money for preferred walk-ons and others to compete for jobs in the fall. I have heard that a number of very good players don't make it because the school is in very high demand. They have a nice facility, great coaching staff, etc. They make it very clear that they are not interested in any players below a 3.0 and below 1000 on their SAT's.
If your son did well, I'm sure he was noticed by the coaches in attendance.
Good luck to you and your son.
