Actually, I am not a huge fan of Cohen's coaching style or recruiting style. Although from what I understand he has become much more relaxed with the year they had last year.
I'm surprised at that salary figure. I just assumed for a large SEC school that it would be more. I say that because Topdogfan and I have been following the signing of a new coach at another DI up north with a salary of $57,000/year. I would have thought UK might have paid more. That's interesting! Thanks Tas and hope you didn't bet the house!!!

No it's not imho. Those are big bucks from what I know and many times more than many coaches make. It is interesting how perspectives differ though. For example, the Oregon State coach just signed for 300k/per year and he won the National Championship. Cohen is being very well paid imho.
CD - Don't get me wrong! I don't have a problem with what they are paying. I happen to think that's a good salary. I just would have guessed it to be higher.
I must be reading your post wrong! The Oregon State coach CAN'T be making 300k/year!

Yup
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -Oregon State baseball coach Pat Casey got a new 10-year contract from the school Friday. Casey interviewed with Notre Dame earlier this week, but decided to stay with the national champions. Athletic director Bob De Carolis said Casey's new deal includes base pay of $230,000, along with bonuses and side deals that would raise his annual salary to close to $300,000. His base salary last year was $120,000. The 45-year-old Casey said his decision was influenced heavily by the outpouring of support from the region, team and staff. "It really blew me away,'' he said. Casey has compiled a 391-253-4 record in 12 years at Oregon State. Last month, the Beavers fought off elimination six times, becoming the first team in College World Series history to lose twice in Omaha and win the national championship.
Well, that's just amazing. I didn't know there was a college baseball coach anywhere in the world making that!
I know I'm hijacking Tas' thread, but do they have to pay him that much money to keep him (Casey) there? I'm just bothered by that much money when there are coaches working just as hard that don't make a 10th of that! Something just seems wrong with it.
Here, I was just defending that I thought 50 thousand something was a good salary! I still think it is, but $300,000! Gosh, don't guess Casey will be going anywhere!

Oh my goodness Dan - I'm the one confused! I went back and reread Tas' article. I had read it as 295,000 five year deal! Not 295,000/year!!!! That's why I was so surprised at what he was making! I referred to the school topdogfan and I were following paid $57,000/year. I think I just was completely naive - never thought we could pay that much!!
WOW!!!!!! I did completely mis-understand. How much is Gilmore getting paid at CC? I'm just as much in shock now over UK as Oregon!

lafmom...you do realize that John Cohen is making $295k PER YEAR.....unless I was reading the posts wrong, you appear to think John was making much less....
Five year deal worth over a million.....
Heck...Dan McDonnell (new skipper at U of Louisville) is making $140k PER YEAR....five year deal.....and he's never been a head coach...

Well it has been a while since I made a contribution here. I have been very busy following BS around this summer but we had a break tonight so I thought I would chim in on a subject that effects us.
We were glad to see Coach Cohen get a nice contract to stay in Lexington. As an incoming freshman you sure would hate to see the coaches that recruited your son leave. Is it too much maybe? But without knowing what the other SEC coaches are making it is tough to know. I would say he is now 1 or 2?
I just wish they could open up a few more scholarship dollars for the players? They are the one's who need more money! Baseball is becoming one of the top NCAA sports but yet only allows ll.7 scholarships!
LOW - That surprises me too! Louisville is like UK and hasn't made baseball a high priority sport. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy to see baseball coaches get recognition and money put into our sport. I just had no idea that there was such a wide variety of ranges in salaries.

lafmom--You think Beauford would like to make 100K ?....LOL....
You are right....there are plenty of men out there coaching baseball at small colleges and universities and are lucky to make 45K.....just think of the assts. at these small schools...it's a wonder that they can live off of that.....some are married w/ families.... But they do what they love and they have aspirations of being the next head coach at a major univ and make a heck of a living....

OS - Exactly what are you referring to? If it's my thoughts on Cohen, I'm sorry if I offended you. Many people think he's a great coach and I'm sure they're more knowledgeable than I. I don't think my opinion of a coach influences anyone elses.
