Not a good night for the team. We recieved our first loss, 9-1. Knott held Leslie to no runs going into the bottom of the 4th and the flood gates opened. Leslie scored 7 runs in the top of the 5th. I wasn't there, work , anyway, I was kept up on the game by phone. Even though they did take a loss, KCC didn't look bad before the 5th and after the 5th, defensively that is. Offense only had one hit, B had the hit. He then was thrown out at 3rd trying stretch out another base. Wife said that coach held him up then waved him on, that's her story. B also threw one out trying to steal and made a double play. Leslie walked him twice the first 2 times he came to bat, so he's batting 1.000. That's a +.

That sounds like a very positive report tas and I know I would be pleased Let us know what the team's record is after 10 games. That would be a better indication.

tas, I hate when work interferes with what we really want to do, which is watch baseball! The Generals played their first game tonight and beat Bryan Station (another school in Lexington, for those who don't know) 3-0. A well pitched game by our ace, who has already signed with Eastern Kentucky for next year. D was 1-3 with a double. No one tried to steal on him, so we'll have to wait a bit to see how he does that way! Bryan Station is much improved over last year, particularly once they got over the first inning jitters. What was really fun was seeing some of the seniors from last year and some of their parents out for our first game. It just reminds me that we have something really nice at this school, where the parents really do get to be like family. Sure, we have our squabbles, dont' all families? But, in the end, they felt the need to come out and support these guys in their first game of the year and that felt good.

Sounds like they're off to a great start. And some great fans as well. I was on the phone constantly over most of the game. Leslie County's pitcher was very good on the mound. Quinten Morgan had 7 SO's in 5 innings of work and allowed 1 hit. Morehead had a scout there looking at him and gunned him at 84 on several pitches. CD, I hope after 10 games that we'll have a winning record. We have a tough game on Wednesday. We play Woodridge, Ohio. Woodridge beat a very good Pikeville team last night, 6-1. I'll get to watch that one. I need to make a correction, there were 2 hits in the game by KCC. Caleb Hall got the other. He's a senior and will play college ball at Alice Lloyd College. He's another great hitter and an outstanding 1Bman.

Beezer, Sounds like you have alot on your plate Plus, driving your son an hour each way for practice must take its toll as well. For those that may be unaware, Beezer's daughter just accepted a full ride scholarship to Cleveland State for golf. Congrats to your daughter and the entire family Beezer

Congrats to Beezer and the family! Now for baseball. . . Zach pitched 4 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Was 3 for 4 at the plate with a RBI and a solo Home Run, the first of his varsity career. What a night ~ we won 10 - 2. Love a good game of baseball!!

Wow, that's awesome. Maybe I've been working on the wrong sport. I did't even realize they gave out a full scholarship for golfers. I guess I'm just out of the loop like that. Congrats to your daughter, Beezer!

CD - Thanks buddy. As you know from our many PM's we're pretty excited to see her taking her game to the next level. And yes, the logistics of driving back and forth are somewhat a pain at times but he's REALLY enjoying getting to know his new teammates so it's all worth it. VPM - Thanks! Nate - Thanks. "Full Rides" in golf aren't very common. Perhaps slightly more common than baseball but definitely not the norm. NCAA allows 6/team. Most teams have a roster of around 8 - 10 girls, and not all programs that offer scholarships are fully funded. So you can do the math and see we were pretty fortunate! Soooo.....how did she do last night in softball? Let's just say I think she's in for a long season. I was telling Fungo the other day that the starting C is out for the season (a D1 signee but torn ACL), the next best C is actuall our starting SS (another D1 signee), and the #3 C got hurt in workouts. So she had a relatively young and inexperienced girl behind the plate for her last night who in turn, broke her finger on a foul ball last night in the 1st inning. Enter C #5. My daughter said she gave up 1 earned run and they lost 7-1. Tough to win on 2 hits and 6 errors. To make matters worse, they have a DH against one of the better big school programs in the state on Saturday and several girls are not available. That could get REALLY ugly!!! Fortunately, their head coached worked with my daughter a couple winters so hopefully he takes it easy on them.
