After a very disappointing first year and being red-shirted, today the coach asked to see my son after practice. He was given his revised work out schedule for the week so he would be ready to pitch in the third game this weekend. I think my son is bouncing off the walls. Hope he has no tests the this week!

That is great news. I am sure you are worse than he is, at least he has a work out schedule to occupy his mind.
Speaking to my son the other night I finally heard the excitement he is starting to feel for the first game this week. After missing most of last season, he reminded me that he had not played in a real game in almost a year and couldn't wait to get started.

Good luck to all of you who are starting your Div I seasons this weekend! I'll be thinking of you. Hey, BHD, what's the CSU rotation looking like? They go up against OU this weekend, where middle son played for a season. Beat those Bobcats!
We were visiting our oldest son this past weekend in Northeast Tennessee, where he is a professor at LMU in Harrogate. They are a Div II school and have been playing for a couple of weeks. We went to their doubleheader they had on Saturday vs. Carson-Newman. What a delightful afternoon!! It was sunny and about 65! The teams split that afternoon. It did my heart good to hear the "ping" of the bat and the cheering crowd. I am going through a little baseball withdrawal since my youngest finished up his college eligibility last year...

WOW...just watching The Weather Channel to see what this weekend holds for the season openers. All I can say is....I hope everyone takes their umbrellas, snow boots, and/or ice picks with them to their games. It looks kind of nasty out there. Be safe in your travels.

Can't say I am surprised, Mother Nature has known I was planning this trip for several months. She has had a lot of time to prepare.
Oh well, maybe we will pack some ski gear and hit the slopes for a couple of days. Not a big fan of east coast skiing but isn't there and old saying about making lemonade. Looks like this wekend in may be a lemon slushy.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Hey JT, whats the forecast look like up there?
Not looking good. Friday will be a wash...and the team we're supposed to play may have a hard time driving down from PA. Saturday should be sunny and around 50...the question will be how wet the fields will be.

I know it is trying my patience. We have a 6:30am flight tomorrow morning and when I checked with US Air to see what could be done about a later flight they had plenty but wanted 100.00 each to make the change.
Guess I'll be up early tomorrow.
JT,
Lets hope the fields will dry, our guys are also driving down from PA so hopefully the roads are ok by the time they get going.

What is that - the world's smallest violin? I don't detect much sympathy around here!

CD - Hopefully they won't be receiving tomorrow the weather we've gotten today and tonight! A little tough to hit balls covered in ice!! I'll say a prayer for all our east coast boys - right after I get through saying one that I make it through another ice storm without a fractured hip!

I caved in and paid the $100 to change my flight on USAir. I knew there was no way I was probably going to get out of Philly tomorrow morning. So I flew to Greensboro this afternoon and am now sitting in the hotel. The guys left late this afternoon, and I am really hoping the bus pulls in before the forecasted ice/snow/mix starts to hit the ground. Games haven't been cancelled yet for tomorrow, but I can't imagine they will be played if the forecast hold up.
Safe travels to everyone and your guys!

Well, most of the games on the East Coast are rained out today. Here is one from North Carolina that is slated to go in 15 minutes and there is live stats for the game (See Akron's site) - Akron versus West Virginia. Of course bagsbaseball's son is on Akron but there are lots of kids from both teams that are from this area.
Akron - Jake Plata (Padua), John Turk (Kirtland), Kevin Haas (St. Ignatious) and bags' son Ben Danziger (Cleveland Hts).
West Virginia - Mark Dvroznak (St. Eds).
Since my game is rained out, I'll be following this one and pick up some of the West Coast games later this evening.
I believe Kentucky is playing Xavier later this evening. The pitcher slated to go for Xavier (Charlie Leasman) was the winning pitcher in the 2005 Ohio State championship semi-final against my son's team. Of course, BuckeyeCat's son Brian Suerdick is a catcher for Kentucky. Another kid from our area (Jesse Yano) also plays for Kentucky.
