Talked to my son and he said he is tired. no time for anything but school work eating and baseball. All those pitches I threw while he was home didn't hurt him. Says he feels like he is ready for games tomorrow and almost took a few out in BP. Said they were out side and working on the field getting tons done. I think I am more excited for the season to get started than he is...well maybe not more but just as much. This will be the first year not getting to see him play, I will be glued to the computer...lol
How did everyone elses sons first week go? Some of you are only weeks away from opening day...I can feel the excitement!! party

Mde - So glad to hear about his first week. I really am going to try to get to see them play this year. I'm assuming his weather is similar to ours - the son has been shining brightly yesterday and today, but it is COLD!!

The excitement and anticipation of the year is just killing me for one! I really haven't talked to Michael about practices resuming - I know they're working very hard as usual.

My usual saving grace of UK basketball isn't getting me too far this year. Can't wait for baseball season!!!!

Good question Mde5. There were some highs and one very minor low. I'll start with the low first. My son has been battling a groin injury for about 6 weeks so has not been able to run. He met his long distance time given by the coaches but he was upset with his 60 time. I said what did you expect? Why don't you just go ahead and tear it off the bone like Nomar Garciaparra? Give me a break already. I think he got the message but he is very hard on himself to a fault sometimes.

As for the highs it has been the weather and being able to practice outdoors on the field this week. This was the main reason we both wanted him to play in the south. Said like your son, he was pleased with his hitting. They held individual workouts for small groups this week followed by team practice next week. They begin intra-squad scrimmages beginning the week of the 24th. First game is February 10th.

CD - Your son is his father's son! Something about apples and trees?!?!? Big Grin

This is another young man that I would love to see play but probably won't get the chance - not this year anyway. There are so many wonderful young baseball players who's parents post on this site. The kind of players with desire, dedication, and intensity that demonstrate the true meaning of the love of the game. I get excited thinking about the upcoming year for all of them!

Your kids are lucky! Mine is still home til next weekend but this was the 3rd weekend he ran up to school for hitting practice-in the gym. Did bring his schedule back this morning and was not happy to see a couple of late night practices on school night. One is til 11:45 at night. I just laughed since he's up til 3 a.m. right now. He says he's usually in bed by then when he's at school. I told him to take a nap like he's been doin' here.

1st game is in VA in middle of Feb. Hope the weather is better down there than last yr. They wound up only playing one game and coming home early 'cause it started to snow and was freezing. In VA?? Thought it would be warmer down there.

Mine is also enjoying the South Carolina alternative to January in Ohio (though it certainly hasn't been bad here -- but hardly baseball weather...). His team's fall practice was largely scuttled by terrible weather, so they are just now trying to figure out what kind of team they have this year. Intra-squads start tomorrow with first game in Tallahassee (yikes!) on Feb. 3.

I enjoy reading about the boys and their baseball. It would be nice if there was a "tag" beside the posters name that would link to their son's roster on his team or. Like MDE5's son I had to go to the NKU website and work backwards doing a little detective work. Best of luck to Brian and all the boys! bye

Fungo - It can be a bit of a challenge trying to keep up and follow everyone. Here's a link to a thread Luvbb did for folks that tend to post in this forum - it's a little easier to navigate than the larger "where are they" thread in the General Forum.

If others would like to visit it as well - feel free to add website info. It does make life easier for those of us who are true baseball junkies!

It is a small world. Our kids will be playing against each other this year.

I wish your son great success at NKU.

Thanks lafmom for the link. That's good.
Of course when I want to see how a player is doing I'll never be able to find the link. I'll look hi and lo forwardroll I need to be a little more organized.

Practices and workouts are going good....on a personal level, son's arm is feeling GREAT (which seems to be the first question I ask him everytime we talk! phone) He thinks in retrospect, after feeling how strontg his arm is feeling, that his arm troubles have been a long time in coming because he can't remember WHEN his arm has felt this good. Knock on wood it keeps progressing in this direction.

The new stadium is coming along at an incredibly fast pace! And it is going to be a HUGE improvement in playing conditions once it is operational. It stands right across from PSU's Beaver Stadium....much to the chagrin of Joepa who wasn't too happy about having some "prized" parking/tailgating spots taken away from thye footballo program. Everyone associated with the baseball program is sitting on pins and needles waiting to get some use out of the new stadium.

Just finalized hotel/flight plans to Clearwater and Tempe....so baseball can't get here soon enough for ME! good

My son just returned to college yesterday. They have a team meeting today and I believe they will be practicing the rest of the week. When I called him this morning, my son was just dragging his rear end out of bed getting ready to head over to the baseball complex to lift, run, throw and hit. So I'll have to report back at the end of the week regarding his first week of practice....

Regarding following players, I have a whole slew of bookmarks in my favorites folder to the websites of college baseball players I know. I think another good way to track players would be to create a Word or Excel file containing the info of all the players (including the website link) you are interested in. You could even cut and paste the info directly from this webite! Just some suggestions....

M - That is a wonderful idea. I'm not very computer savy, but I think I can handle the bookmarking thing. I'll go through and do that tonight. That's a very good fix!

Just wanted to drop in and say I really enjoy this forum - you all (moderators and members) do a great job of keeping things interesting, and supporting each other.

I LOVE reading your college reports, especially since in Minnesota, the boys don't get to play outside until July (slight exaggeration, I hope!).

Also wanted to let you know that I'm working on enhancements to the Where Are They Now page:
http://www.hsbaseballweb.com/where_are_they.htm

So far I've been updating the list with player names and colleges, but I plan to add links to college baseball web pages in the next few weeks. I'm also planning some changes to the overall website structure and menu system to make it a little easier to find some of the pages such as "Where Are They Now?". Bob H. built such a wonderful site full of excellent info, and I'm hoping to make the articles and resources even easier to find and utilize.

Thanks to ClevelandDad, lafmom, luvbb, and orioles42 for moderating this great forum!
good

Julie

FYI - another one of the dads around has a son at Miami Univ but didn't see him on the list. Now if I could just remember who it was.... pull_hair

EDIT: Found him in the "Identify your son" thread on page 2. 04Parent's son. Connor Graham, RHP, 04 St. John's Jesuit HS, Toledo, OH
NLI: Miami (OH)

Obviously he signed the NLI since the post. Wink

Beezer,

Thanks, it is my pleasure to add Connor Graham to the list. My son and husband met Connor and his dad at the only showcase my son attended in HS (PG in Iowa, 2003). Fine young man from a very nice family, and my guys were very impressed with his pitching ability!
