At the urging of Lafmom...I have decided to open up this question to our clever, smart and insightful forum members (just in case you were wondering...I was including EVERYONE of you in that statement! Big Grin)

I'm absolutely STUMPED for Christmas gift ideas for my college-aged son this year. Last year, I went the I-Pod route...which was VERY appreciated! But, nothing sticks out in my mind this year. Anyone willing to share what great ideas YOU have this year for your sons and/or daughters? What's hot...and what's not?
I was hoping that EA NCAA Baseball video game would be available...but it isn't until March. And I hate the idea of just giving money to my kids (I do that enough the REST of the year! Wink)

Anyone have any experience or knowledge in those small portable DVD players? Knowing how my kids use their I-Pods on those road-trips...thought maybe the portable DVD might be nice. I know my original thought (when they went off to college) was that they would take along their lap-tops.....boy was I WRONG about that! Roll Eyes Anyway....any brand/model suggestions on portable DVDs????

luvbb,

My colleague has a little tiny DVD player that he watches movies on the plane with. I think it is a Sony but I'll check with him and report back.

Both my baseball players have portable DVD players -- it's the only thing that gets them through road trips (or flights home!). They have a few to choose from at places like Circuit City. Chances are they have been improved since we bought ours. The important factor is battery strength -- If you only have a 2-hour battery, it won't get you through a 2+ hour movie. You might even consider buying an auxilary battery to go along with it.

OK, Luvbb - there's more than one way to skin a cat as they say. Maybe folks will share with us what they're wanting for Christmas thus giving us some ideas.

A portable DVD player might be a terrific gift idea. They're much smaller than the laptop. Anxious to see what info folks have on those.

Girls are much easier to shop for - I could spend a small fortune in an afternoon on my daughter!

LOL sorry mom, I guess that's just what I'm used to getting from family.

Maybe it's the Canadian way... don't know what to buy them, meh that's ok just give them a gift certificate, especially if they are for Tim Hortons!

Tim Hortons is the BEST Coffee Shop known to man. Famous for both it's coffee and donuts.

A former Toronto Maple Leaf Defencemen (Hockey player) opened up the first store some 50 years ago in Toronto, he used to make all the donuts himself at one point in time. They got so popular that he decided to open up a small franchise of them. He even used to give out boxes to teamates for favours that they would do for him.

Sadly he was killed in an automobile accident, but his legacy inhockey along with the coffee shop lived on.

Now it is the largest coffee shop franchise in all of Canada spanning the Country from coast to coast.

You don't know what coffee is until you've had a Timmies!

Most Canadian's can't start their day without having one.

Interesting Doc. I wonder if they're in the northern US. I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but one of my favorite gifts one year was a mug and some hot chocolate mix (so good!) from a great coffee shop here. That is a good gift idea for a lot of folks.

I THINK but wouldn't swear that they have a few in Michigan. Doc - don't they have good doughnuts too? I remember them from our trips to Canada as a kid.

In my journeys through the States, I've seen 6 in Ohio, 2 in NYS and one in MI. I was surprised to see that many down in Ohio, they were all mainly around Urbana, or where we were playing.

There are Tim Hortons in the following States CT KY MA ME MI NY OH PA RI, WV (just a ord of warning if you ever do go to a Timmy's in the U.S. they just aren't as good as the stuff up here!)

There are 10 Tim Horton's in Columbus alone. I like Tim Horton's when I am in Canada. But it does not compare to Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme. Sorry DocK, but that's a fact.

I'm not out of order! You're out of order! The whole freakin' system is out of order! You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't HANDLE the truth!

Well, we're hijacking Luv's thread, but the BEST donuts ever are at a mom/pop establishment in Versailles, KY. Melt in your mouth! It's called doughdaddy's. Smile

Hey Holden,

I heard that Krispy Kream was going bankrupt or maybe that was just the Canadian Corporation.

I do agree that Dunkin Donuts is pretty good, but I still gotta stick with my Timmy's
