We haven't had a lot of things shared in the HS thread in the past, but certainly want a place where those parents and players will be reminded to share about their season. Our HS memories are very special and it can be a great time in a player's life!

Tryouts in KY begin Friday! Good luck to Tasmit's son!! Smile

Thanks Laf!

The team hasn't had much time to practice because of the weather and the flu bug. But, that means more time in the gym. And these boys are working hard.

Coach waits until the basketball team finishs their season to hold tryouts. We have some that are going to tryout.

I am waiting patiently for the season to start. Yea, right. Big Grin

Today was the first day of pitcher/catcher tryouts in Ohio. My freshman son came home with some funny stories.

1) After he pitched, the catcher came up to him and said "Did you mean for some of those pitches to curve?"

2) He overheard another catcher telling a pitcher not to throw so hard.

It may be a long season!!

Knott's basketball team was upset on Tuesday, so tryouts for our team should be Saturday. *Crossing fingers for good weather*

I went to a practice last Saturday and one of the new boys looks like he may be able to help us out, pitching wise. He had good form and had some zip on the ball. I haven't seen any hitting yet. I hope to see some this Saturday.

Goodeye - That is a funny story! Keep us posted on your son. It often seems that although this is the HIGH SCHOOL Baseball Web, that most of the parents are college parents. All of us enjoy hearing about the guys that are still at the HS level!!

Tas - I think we're suppose to have some decent weather Saturday, but tell them to try out fast! LOL I think Monday and Tuesday aren't looking too well! Good luck to C!

Knott finally had a scrimmage game on Tuesday. We played Sheldon Clark who finished 2nd in their region (15th). Knott looked good considering half the team hadn't played baseball since they were 12.

KCC has 5 returning players from last season and 14 new players. No seniors, two juniors, and the rest are sophomoreds and freshman. A very young team. KCC lost 11-6. The format for this scrimmage was to allow 6 batters per inning. It allows everyone the chance to hit and to get into the game. Cody pitched the first 2 innings. He allowed 3 runs and retired the last 6 batters that he faced. Pitching is looking good for KCC. Most of the runs were scored on by errors. So that needs some work.

Our next scrimmage is tomorrow against Woodridge HS out of Ohio.

Let us know how that goes. They are in my neck of the woods and supposed to be pretty good according to the chat sites.

Will do Beezer. This will make the 3rd consecutive year that we have played Woodridge. Great program and well respected by all of the teams that they have played here in SE KY.

Cody is out for the game, he "tweaked" his hammy during batting practice. Not taking any chances.

Tas - great to hear some HS baseball news! My daughter told me today that their first game is Monday (I think games might be scrimages at this point?). We play Male one day this week who's suppose to be pretty good from what I hear. Then Lafayette will go on their trip to Florida for spring break. I probably won't catch any games until afterwards because I'm crazy at work and doing some remodeling stuff on my house. I'll be there soon though! Smile

The game was as expected. Knott did look good at times, but a bunch of sophs playing against 9 seniors made it look easy for the Woodridge team.

Beezer, Woodridge is full of pitching. Catcher has a strong arm. The only flaw that I really could see was the outfield. The missed played some balls and left some big gaps in left. Other than that thry were solid.

We'll be ready by midseason. Knott starts out with 3 tough games. Estill County, Perry Central, and Powell County. They'll be tested right off.

That's one of the rumors I've heard.

The first pitcher we faced was a righty. Probably 80-85 MPH fast balls, wicked curve, and when he realized the plate ump was calling strikes on the inside lower half of the plate, he would put it right there 1st or 2nd pitch. The next one was about the same, except his fast ball had more movement.

Woodridge's coach said that these were is 3rd-4th starting pitchers. They played Clay County earlier in the day and used 1st-2nd starting pitchers.

Knott's first game wasn't too good. They lost to Perry Central 15-1. Perry's pitcher had a no no going, but I am glad to say that Cody broke it up by hitting a shot between 3rd and 2nd. baseball7

Knott's team is young. Hopefully, by mid season they'll be better.

clap Yeah for Cody, Tas!! We were going to Lafayette's game last Thursday, but it was rained out. We'll catch them next week after they get back from Florida.

I bought the grandbaby an outfit that has baseball with the number 12 on it just for the occasion! Wink Son's HS coach gave the baby this small batting helmet with "L" on it - looks just like the HS helmets! It was already too small though by the time he was able to get it to us - but looks cute in his nursery and allows me to dream! Smile

My son has one of those from his old travel team. Pretty cool aren't they?

You can tell that Knott is rebuilding this year. They have played 4 games and lost all 4. This team is young. It's going to be a rough season.

Cody is doing OK. He pitched his first varsity game Friday against Betsy lane. And boy what a game. He looked good the first couple of innings. Striking out a couple of batters and getting the others to fly out or ground out. I kept looking at him on the mound and with his hair longer than usual, I was thinking Jared Weaver, just without the velocity. Big Grin The 3rd inning is where it went crazy. Knott was leading 7-0 and in the 3rd Betsy Lane scored 5 runs, 2 earned and 3 on errors. Knott went scoreless in the 3rd. KCC 7 BL 5.

Cody came out of the game in the 3rd after a pretty good outing for his first start. Betsy Lane scored 9 more runs in the 4th to take the lead. BL 14 KCC 7. Knott scored 7 runs in the 5th. That made it 14 -14. The game was then called due to the field conditions. Betsy Lane's CF made an outstanding catch while sliding in the OF. The umps then made the decision to call the game because of safety reasons. Crazy, crazy game. The rest of this game will be played next week.

Knott did play Powell County the next day and looked pretty good, even though losing 12-2 to the top ranked 14th region team. Knott was one error and a base running mistake away from having a better game.

Knott played Buckhorn last night. Even though they lost the game, 6-1, the kids looked better. KCC is starting to gel.
