Congratulations to the Marshall Thundering Herd on a great season and a nice run in the C-USA tournament. All you folks that live in that part of the country need to pay attention to what Coach Waggoner is doing at Marshall. If I lived in Ohio or West Virginia, I would rather have my son play in C-USA than the Big 10 or Big East - much better baseball.

I think there's probably some Big 10 or Big East fans around here that might disagree with ya. Wink However, I am really glad to see Marshall improving it's program! It's a school that has a lot going for it and it's about time that they step it up for the baseball program. Maybe more success will help that progress.

Coach Waggoner is a up and coming coach in the college ranks---he has that program on the right track

He will be one of our guest speakers at our Binghamton Showcase

Marshall baseball has improved alot in the last couple of years.

MU Insiders view- the driving force and person behind the success of the team is Assistant Coach Tim Adkins. He is the pitching coach and recruiter but knows the game all around. If he was not there, the difference would be HUGE. The second main person behind the success is the volunteer assistant coach-George Brumfield.

Marshall Baseball will continue to improve. Cool

So the head coach had nothing to do with the upswing? Confused

Didn't say anything about Jeff- never would.
Knew some folks would not agree and that is fine.
I stand by my statement.
We all have the right to our opinion here.

MSgrits,
Your comments here would seem to indicate that you are a Huntington area native who probably has a son that is a pitcher? You give all of the credit to the two "locals" (Adkins and Brumfield) and none to Coach Waggs or Donnelly. How close am I?

The fact is that Coach Waggs is a hard working, charismatic guy that players want to play for. At the very least, give him credit for hiring Tim and George.

Marshall had great season but one season doesn't build a program. Players that were at Marshall were recruited and told Stadium on its way, field to be in place by 2008. As a whole many players not happy with what they were told: No Field( practiced on football field), Stadium not in the works, Scholarships promised and reduced a week before school started in fall( this was widespread throughout many players).Sales ability of coach very good but if your looking for a Coach to trust probably not the place. Most players did like and respect Coach Atkins as he has concern for the program long term.

Our experiences with Marshall were years ago. We loved the school, but bottomline for my son was he didn't feel like the baseball program was a priority. Without increased support of the AD and school, it never will be. During my son's visit, we actually took it upon ourselves to go find the baseball field while waiting to talk with the coach (different staff then). We asked directions from folks on campus.... most of whom had no idea where the team played. Finally, someone gave us directions. Off we go..... oh, there's Walmart..... THAT'S the field!?!?!?! Well, we never did find out if they ever actually played on this field stuck off a hill behind Walmart. They ended up playing somewhere else. The laugh and the impression that we got.... Marshall is going to have to step it up. As far as the coaching staff lying as Texas Eagle feels. Who knows? They're only as good with their funds as the funding allows. Ya know? It all starts at the top and has to work its way down. Sometimes coaches truthfully know no more than the incoming players and can be as completely shocked with changes.

Lafmom would agree there is very little to NO support from the University of the baseball team. This year from what I'm being told they practiced all of one time on their so called field in the Spring. The local media claims the administration has tabled discussion of a Stadium until 2011. Didn't say coaches technically lie there is just alot of misinformation or misleading information given to recruits. Very many of the recruits never knew the School had No Facilities until they showed up on Campus.Coach sells Conference USA very good but never shows the facilities other than Power Park in Charleston(which is only used for Conference games and is an Hour away). With 56 road games students have trouble keeping up with classwork as they miss class in the spring just about every day.If being recruited Ask Questions and then listen CAREFULLY so as not to be surprised when you get to campus.

That is good advice for all recruits at all schools.

As I said, it was a different staff when my son and I visited. The recruiting coach then flat out told my son "I have nothing to show you". Of course, he did refer to the planned field.... but that appeared to be what they were being promised as well as the players. Too bad about "2011".
