I could have posted this in the HS forum, but felt like it warranted its very own space!

JohnLex's son hit his first Varsity homerun tonight! AND it was against one of our biggest rivals!! He had an all around solid game! Congrats to D and the generals! clap

Aw shucks, thanks Lafmom. Big Grin You have to know that my son focuses a lot on his defense (he's a catcher) so hitting a home run is a huge deal for him. I'm sure that Coach will spend the next couple of days reminding him that he isn't a home run hitter. Smile Of course, he also got to do it in front of Lafmom's son, his favorite ex-teammate, who now will be required to drive back from school for every one of D's games.

By the way, the Coach is going to take a lot of credit for this, I'm sure, since when they were hitting before the game, he told D about something he was doing slightly wrong with his swing. I guess at least for tonight, he fixed it!

Oh, and in case any of you were wondering, Momma has the ball Smile

Big Grin John, Michael was thrilled to be able to be there for tonight's game!!!! Coach actually invited him to come and throw from the mound tomorrow for the guys to have some live pitching for practice. He's planning on doing that and was thrilled - works perfectly with his rotation.

I had to leave after six, (which didn't make me happy!) as K. had homework in my car. I assume there wasn't a big change in score?

Hord did a nice job from the mound(not that I expected any different!). Defense looked much more solid tonight too!

Congrats to JohnLex and his son! It is a big thrill for both the player and the dad to see that first one go over the fence! I still get that feeling ever time BS hits one. Let's hope the next one comes soon.

Congrats JohnLex and son.

Personally, I've never hit a varsity homerun, and I'm sure it was quite the thrill for your son.

Nate - Hitting HR is very exciting, but you sound more like a hit for average guy. That's obviously a very important part of any team and will get you noticed for college!

Trust me Nate, D is normally a gap to gap doubles hitter. After he hit a walkoff HR in JV as a freshman, the JV coach said: "Nice shot, now forget it, you're not a home run hitter." Smile

He's lived by that motto, but every once in a while, it's nice to hit one, because those HRs get your name in the paper Smile

Ahh, it doesn't seem a big deal to me that I'm not a homerun hitter. I just want to hit one in the next two years just so I can say that I hit a homerun in High School. If I wanted to be a homerun hitter, I could hit some, but my average would probably drop 80 points. I hit the occasional 'bomb' in practice.

Nah, I stopped coaching the kid on his hitting years ago, when I realized that he went well beyond me in terms of baseball ability. Big Grin

However, what I do is remind him of all the things that those coaches have said in all those lessons I used to take him to (before he could drive himself). So we could credit my memory!
