Uncle Ethan, Any experience we had with Marshall has been several years ago. The coach that my son communicated with the most has also been gone for some time. I know that pitching was a desperate need for them - don't know if that's changed or not. I also know a pitcher who went there from our city who IMO had excellent promise and he left after one year. I'm sure though how he's doing currently, but perhaps someone else will read this and could shed more light on that situation.

Bottomline at Marshall - baseball is not the team that gets the love. My son was told back in 2004 that a new stadium/field was on the way. If the ground has been broken, I'm not aware of it. I think that lack of support plays a factor in why they haven't been generally competitive.

The school itself is very nice - housing was great with the exception of one older building. I can still say till this day even after doing visits with a daughter at numerous schools, it was probably the campus with the nicest people we ever visited.

Jeff Waggoner is the new head coach and a great young man---I have known him for a number of years from when he was at Kent State and NC State as an assistant

He and his staff are young and very energetic and I expect to see that program turn around in rapid fashion.

Coach Waggoner will be a guest speaker at our Binghamton Showcase seminar this yeear

TRhit,
My son, wife, and I went on a recruiting trip to Marshall and I was VERY impressed with Coach Waggs and his staff. It appears that he signed a good class and got a couple of transfers that could help. I believe that if the administration will give him the support that they have promised to give him, he will build Marshall into a very good program. I was hoping someone on this forum might have some additional "inside" insight.

I am excited to see the debut - and future growth - of Kevin Shackleford.

I think this kid - and he is a very big kid at that - is going to be a big part of the Marshall program over the next 4 years.

My son is a freshman at Marshall and coach Waggs seems to be very enthusiastic and bringing in a lot of talent. Son loves the school, teamates and everything about the place. Facilities are the biggest downer but the chance to play in a conference like Conference USA against some of the best teams in the Country will help move the program forward.
