It's the first one in over 5 years. KCC played two tough games and beat Breathitt County for the title.

Brandon Smith had two big games with 7 hits in 8 at bats, scoring 6 runs, and had 3 RBI's.

Caleb Hall and Jason Johnson also had two big games. Both had 4 hits in 7 at bats. Hall scored 4 runs and had 5 RBI's. Johnson scored 5 runs and had 5 RBI's, and also got the save in the title game. Johnson was named the tournament MVP.

This is Coach Gary Hammonds' 13th district title in 26 years of coaching KCC.

Congratulations Tas!!! Congratulations to Brandon as well - he has had a super year. I'm sure your guys worked very hard. Nice accomplishment!

Lafayette won the 43rd. Only had to play two games as we were the top seed, but both were well fought games. HS baseball is awesome!

Lexington Christian Academy won the 44th district.

Madison Central won their district as well.

That's all the scoop I have - will put more as I hear.

Huge congrats to lafmom and Tas along with your sons, and your respective teams! I know that some super high school baseball is being played down in Kentucky! Just had a thought, wouldn't it be cool to have like a two or three team inter-state championship, winner-take-all after the season between say Kentucky, Ohio and maybe PA or Indiana? I know - a pipe dream.

Cleveland Dad - Congrats are due for up north as well. Mentor HighSchool is on a roll and we down here wish them only the best! It would be fun to have a "regional" as in state regional championship! Again, best of luck to your guys!!!

Lafmom, thanks so much for those kind words. Brandon has played very good this year and hopes to keep up the good play during the Summer.

I read the Lexington Herald this morning and I am truly sorry that the General's season has come to a close. They had a great season and we enjoyed playing against them last Fall. I know that your son will have a great collegiate career and hopefully beyond.

I will be busy next season keeping up with boys that will be playing in the college ranks next season. Your son, Justin Combs from Breathitt, and many more. That is what is so great about HS babseball. You meet so many wonderful people. And even though I haven't met you face to face, it has been a pleasure. Keep us updated.

Tas - Thank you so very much for your kind words. Please keep us posted about your region and results. I'll post here the 11th region when done. I'm not sure who to cheer for. All four of teams that are left have friends of Michael's on them. Where is the kid from Breathitt playing? Michael will have several other Lafayette teammates playing - so I know what you mean. Between them and other posters kids I'll have a busy year too!!

The best of luck to Brandon this summer and in the tournament. Michael starts summer ball this weekend. So back to the ballpark!!

Justin is going to Union College. He'll be playing football and baseball for the Bulldogs.

Tas, That's an impressive thing to do - doing two sports! He must be a good athlete.

How are things going for KC?

Justin is a very good athlete. He should do very well in both sports.

We lost last night. It was a bad game. I think the boys tried to hard to win this one. But they got further than what a lot of their critics thought that they would. We are very proud of those boys. We'll get 'em next season.

Tas, Sorry to hear about the loss, but I'm sure you're right. Brandon still has plenty of time to get that ring!! Good luck to your boys next year - we'll be following. Let me know if you all come up to Lafayette this fall (I guess Brandon will do football again though). I'll be going through withdrawls and plan on catching some HS baseball when I can! Michael is pitching for his summer team, so he's going to hit with Lafayette some to make sure he gets in his swings.

I'm not sure if Brandon will be playing football this year or not. He hasn't said anything about it, so far.

We'll be in Lexington in July for a tournament. Henry Clay, I beleive.

Tas - We'll have to check out the Henry Clay tourn if we're in town. It's quite possible Lafayette is in it. I haven't seen their schedule yet. I know Michael's got tournaments out of town in July - every weekend I believe.

It sounds like your baseball program is coming around very well, so hopefully Brandon will decide to focus on it. Plus, if you don't have enough players in the fall, you have to borrow those pesky Lexington kids. Smile Michael had so much fun playing with your guys, but I can truly say, I don't know if I've ever seen him that tired. That was a long but fun weekend for him. I plan on going to watch fallball at Lafayette as well and I bet you all come up here again. Just keep in touch and let me know.

We had our first "summerball" game yesterday. 90 degree double headers - oh the fun!!!
