Congrats to the KY baseball fellas! They have split their weekend with Auburn so far with their final game today to determine the series. I watched UK play Auburn last year here in Lexington. I can tell you the teams were so far apart that I am shocked at how KY is playing.

Three of their biggest bats are Lexington boys, including a former teammate of my sons. A big congrats to Michael Bertram (Lafayette), Collin Cowgill (former teammate of Pantherfan's son at Henry Clay), and John Shelby (Tates Creek). Bert graduates this year and there's talk that Shelby will be drafted.

Son's other former HS teammate on the team, Tommy Warner, is getting some innings this year too! Congrats to Tommy!

lafmom - I couldn't agree more with you.

I believe Kentucky has made bigger strides than any other program in the nation this year. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Coach Cohen win the NCAA coach of the year this year in view of who they have already beaten. From our neck of the woods, Antoine DeJesus is also an excellent player for them. Huge congrats to Kentucky - extremely impressive clap

CD - DeJesus is an excellent player. I haven't actually gotten to see UK play this year yet, but last year he was one impressive kid to watch. His bat continues to get the job done this year as well!

Nice to see the Wildcats doing well this season! They lost back to back games for the first time today. Frown 22-7 and 5-4 in the SEC is moving in the right direction.

It is really exciting to think that my son will be joining them this fall!

We are going to catch the Florida game next Sunday. It will be neat to see them in person after watching them on TV! I hope UK gets a few big crowds next weekend to cheer the Cats on!

And one of the aces on the Staff is a young man from Rome, NY, Greg Dombrowski !!!

Not only is he a fine pitcher but he is even a finer young man

TRhit...Greg is having a great year so far and I'm sure the Cats will bounce back from a tough weekend at Auburn and give Florida all they can handle this weekend.

Go Cats!

TRhit - I can sense alot of pride there when you see one of your own succeed like Greg has.

The fact that Kentucky has really come on this year is obviously an added bonus. It doesn't get any better than that.

Kentucky sweeps #7 South Carolina! party BS and I went down to UK today and visited with the coaches and took in the final game of the South Carolina series. The Wildcats are a very special bunch this year under the direction of Coach John Cohen. UK was down early 6-0 but they did not panic and came back to win 12-9! clapping This is the first sweep of an SEC series in years. Kentucky should move up in the polls next week from their current 21st spot. If they can keep this up Coach Cohen should win the SEC Coach of the Year Award easily?

Great job Cats! ole

It's been amazing watching the Wildcats just get better and better under Coach Cohen. My son says that Coach Cohen's hitting program is incredible when you see it, and he has only been exposed to it a little bit. I can only imagine what it is like if you work it every day!

Hey BC, too bad you couldn't stay another day in Lexington, tomorrow at Cliff Hagen Field you would get to see some of Lexington's finest high school teams play ball, including a game with Lafmom's (and my) beloved Lafayette Generals playing the Henry Clay Blue Devils.

I love watching good HS baseball! But BS has a game himself on Monday so I dare not miss it.

I wish some of the good HS teams from up here in the Dayton, Ohio area would go down to Lexington and play a few teams? I know our HS searches every year to find good teams to play non-league games with. Maybe the distance and traveling by a school bus would prohibit that?

Will be exciting to see BS wearing the Blue & White next year!

Go Cats!

I am guessing he is going to be right up there for national coaching of the year awards as well. A tremendous turn-around for this program applaude

I am not a big fan of CJC's coaching style based on his on field antics that I have witnessed. Of course my opinion may have been tempered by his slash and burn tactics he used on some players I personally knew when he assumed the position of HC. The one quiet dissenting voice in the back of the room.

Congrats on Miss USA!!!

Fungo - As you and CD know, I'm with you on that. Winning results usually speak louder than public opinion however, so he may very well pull out a coach of the year award. A coach of the year should possess many abilities and qualities outside of winning IMO. However, I'm glad to have the cats are having those checks in the win column! Big Grin

That's pretty cool that Miss KY won Miss USA! My daughter told me about that last night! Smile

Fungo - you are not the first one to make those observations. I was merely commenting on the results. It looked to me like they had turned the corner last year with their offense. This year with some solid pitching they appear to have taken it to another level. Somewhere the coach will get credit in all that.

I was at the game yesterday. Knott Central's coach decided it was time for the team to take some time, relax, and watch a game between to very good ball clubs. After yesterday's game, I may have turned in my red for blue, just baseball Laf. Big Grin

B went to one of UK's showcases in 2004. One thing that Cohen said, when talking to the boys, was that basketball and baseball will be the most popular sports at UK. Looks like he may be making good on that promise. Some may not like his coaching style and I haven't watched him long enough to give my opinion, but one thing I do know, is that he has some of the classiest players that I have ever seen. C, my youngest son, after the game was getting my hat, reluctantly, his hat, and programs signed by the players. He's become a fan of Shelby, so he wanted his autograph badly. He finally got the chance to have a couple of things signed by Shelby. C looked at him and said "Good game". Shelby handed C's hat to him and said "God bless you for coming to the game." That made C's day and almost brought a tear to my eye. I was just speechless.

What a great day.

Tas - I know most or many of UK's players and they've always been great kids. Michael has two former teammates and several kids that he's played against on the team. Everyone of them contribute something to the team.

Shelby played for Tates Creek here in Lexington. I expect him to be drafted this year. He had a younger brother that graduated last year, but I don't believe he's playing college ball. Their dad was a coach for the Dodgers, but is now with the Pirates. A very classy guy himself and the boys have always been good kids.

I really wish I'd gotten out there yesterday - would have loved to see you all! Would have been a lot more fun than cleaning and doing laundry!!!

Laf, game would be much better. But we have to have clean clothes. Big Grin

I'm going to try and go to another game before the season ends. Atmosphere was great at the ballpark yesterday. I love that they grill burgers and chicken. A little expensive, but very good. Yesterday was B's birthday (17) as well. He really enjoyed his day.
