PG - That is pretty bold I will go with Troy Smith and the Buckeyes. He is one of the best players in the nation and he is surounded by some of the very best. Their defense is under-rated. Too much for the Hawkeyes to overcome imho. I am aware that there is a reason they play the games however. Ohio State is not a good road dog at night and I am guessing that could influence someone's decision - especially if they happened to reside in Iowa

Been a Buckeye fan since my very early youth days during WWII when my dad was teaching at OSU for the Army and the ROTC I still remember sitting in the stadium at the age of 4---absolutely mind boggling--been a Buckeye fan ever since

I don't think PG meant any offense by the idiot comments because I think he assumed he was the only one that picked Iowa. I would ask one favor though PG, please keep picking against the Buckeyes because it seemed to work real well for them last night Seriously, I thought the OSU defense displayed poor tackling last night. I thought there were several questionable calls go against the Buckeyes. Finally, Drew Tate has talent no doubt. I wouldn't draft him however with the temper-tantrum type attitude he displays. They make excuses for him that he is a firey competitor. Ok....so are a lot of other guys.... He seems like he might be quick to point the finger at other places than himself... I could be wrong about all that but that is what his body language says to me.

CD That was a great game! Opening drive by the Buckeyes set the tone for the game IMO. It took the crowd out of the picture. I think playing in Austin early, really helped. Tate does have talent and a live arm, he has a future in football if he can temper his emotions....

lafmom, I apologize… The comment (idiot) was meant about someone else. (Who could that be?) Just goes to show how careful a person needs to be when posting. The only person I would ever call an idiot on this site is myself. And if I ever did decide to say that about anyone… it surely would never be someone as nice as you. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! LadyNmom, Please! No more of your rain dances, I’ll be nice. CD, Drew Tate has helped Iowa win a lot of games, but I agree with you about his body language. I really like Troy Smith, but then he did the “Thank God for making all this possible, it’s all impossible without God” thing! Geez, it's just a football game. After watching that game... I guess God must hate the Hawkeyes! Did I just get myself in trouble again?

I agree. Anyone who thinks there are angels in heaven rooting for the outcome of games...well I think athletes can use religious inspiration to their advantage such as praying to perform their best, praying for healthy outcomes etc. When it gets to "God is on our side" then it is going too far and misguided imho. On the same token, I would prefer to see sports left without various political proclamations or supposed "larger than the game" inferences. For example, I didn't really care for all the "preaching" I heard this past Monday night about how it was so much more than a game in view of Katrina and what it was all supposed to mean. In my mind, I wanted to watch a game - not Spike Lee's views on race relations in America. I will cut Troy Smith some slack for the growing up he has done and learning how to be a leader. His career at Ohio State started out like Maurice Clarret's ended up so I am happy for him. I would prefer he and others direct their commentary toward game issues as PG suggests.

My thoughts exactly CD! I think God plays a very important role in my life. However, I've always felt he has much bigger fish to fry than who wins a ballgame! PG - You hang tough there with your Hawkeyes!! Our HS is having it's first undefeated season since like 1960 something! Sooner or later.... luck, talent, or something's gotta be on their side!

Interesting question. I am not sure what they claim. If they believe this somehow helps their players to play better however, then I don't think they will stop claiming this anytime soon.

I didn't get, "the angels are on our side." from these comments. I got that he was thanking God for the opportunity to be able to play and the health.

I should have been more clear in what I was trying to say. I used PG's quote to introduce a point I wanted to make which may likely be different than the point he was trying to make.
No problem CD. Sometimes guys can make it sound like God is only on their side.
