Once again congratulations to Coach Osborne and Union for a great season. Coach Oz has put the small town of Barbourville on the baseball map, as the Bulldogs advanced to the NAIA super-regional in 2007, to the NAIA World Series in 2008, and are participating in the new NAIA World Series Opening Round this week. The team stubbed its toe the last week of the season which resulted in a 2nd place finish with a 23-4 conference record. They finished second to Tennessee Weslyean, who they beat 2 out of 3 in the regular season. Union was selected as a #2 seed in one of the 5 team qualifiers to advance to the NAIA World Series. Union lost a 8-7 heartbreaker to the host school, Embry-Riddle, in yesterday's winner's bracket final. Reportedly some VERY controversial calls which resulted in at least 3 Union runs taken off the board.
Regardless of what happens today, congratulations to the Bulldogs on their continued success. Having to win 3 games in 2 days is a daunting task, but I know the team will continue to fight.
Bulldogs were eliminated yesterday in the losers bracket final. The bats just couldn't wake up during the tournament, and they didn't seem to recover from the heartbreaking loss in the winner's bracket final the previous day. This team ended up breaking several offensive records. Yesterday Josh Ehringer became the leading home run hitter in school history. This group of seniors also became the winning most class in school history (I think 186 wins over their 4 years).
Bizazz, I'm sorry they're not going on, but hopefully it won't cloud such a great year. A BIG congrats to your son who has faced many many challenges in his passion to play ball. May he get one more year and perhaps lead the Dogs all the way!
