Can someone from Cleveland please explain something to me? Ok here is the situation, The Cleveland Indians are Playing the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 20 at Jacobs Field at 7:05 AT THE SAME TIME Pearl Jam is playing a concert literally across the street at the Quicken loans arena at 7:30! Umm.. I'm think traffic will be kind of nuts? This just seems incredibly stupid to me. Can someone fill me in on how this could possibly work? I was planning on going to see the Pirates and Indians and then see Pearl Jam. I don't understand how this could work (to events that will likely be close to sold-out at the same time across the street from each other). BTW, this sounds like something Pittsburgh would do.

Catcher41,

I hear you. This is not a city issue however. Both Jacobs Field and the Arena are operated by the respective teams and they can schedule events as they wish. I would think the city would want events in both places every night if they could to increase tax revenues.

My office overlooks both venues, so when it gets close, send me a pm and I'll get you some good parking for a reasonable rate.

Kevin - think that's bad...I know a few years ago they had the Cleveland Grand Prix (CART) on the same day as a concert and Indians game.

CD,
Thanks I will defiantly look you up on that. Parking will probably be crazy. The event isn't until May 20 so it is a little ways away. I appreciate it. Actually Pittsburgh did something similar one time. I was going to a Pirate game and there was an In sync(sp) concert, I believe, at the same time. I don't know if you have ever been to Pittsburgh but there is only one way in to the city from our direction, the Squirrel Hill tunnel. They were both at the same times. Thousands of people trying to get into the city at the same time, 2 lanes. The only ways into Pittsburgh are through The Fort Pit tunnel and the Squirrel Hill tunnel. But the Fort Pit comes in on the other side of the city. That was as bad as I have ever seen it.

There actually is another way in but it is way out of the way. So I guess cities do this on purpose? Do they encourage venues to do this? I don't know.

BTW, interesting and useless fact. It is impossible drive through Pittsburgh without going through a tunnel or over a bridge.

Kevin,

The cities have nothing to do with the planning or scheduling of events. These venues are run by the teams themselves and they are free to schedule things whenever they like. My only comment about the cities was that if it were up to them, they would have something going on each night of the year which would increase the cities' revenues. It won't be as bad as you think parking wise. Send me a pm when the time grows near.

ClevelandDad,
I understand. I was actually taking about the tunnel situation rather than laying the double event thing on Pittsburgh itself. I guess I chose my words wrong. I should have said "something similar happened in Pittsburgh" v. "Pittsburgh did something similar." My mistake.
