Does anyone have any opinions on this college? I'd be interested in the program, coach, etc., and even academics.

I just spoke with the coach the other day about a player.

From the Baseball perspective they do quite well. Won NAIA World Series recently. Initial discussions with the coach were very positive, but always make sure it is a good fit for your son's ability.

Something worth noting, they appear to be filled with JUCO Transfers and have a JV Team.
Translation, be wise of your son's talent level when attending a school like this. A JUCO Transfer ... nothing wrong with it but I think you understand where I am headed.

My son had a visit with them in the fall of '03. They made him a very nice offer (approx.50%) told him he would start on jv as a freshman and suit up for varsity. His playinf time on varsity would be determined by his preformance in the jv games. He loved coach Shelton and the facilities but being from the Chicago area it was a little too "rural" for him and he just wasn't totally comfortable....not a fit for him.
Coach Shelton was also very successful at St. Cathrine Communtiy College...so he is a good coach and knows the game...and how to get his guys to play at their best..

Good luck

Make sure you are not confusing Cumberland COllege (KY) with Cumberland University (TN). Cumberland University is the NAIA powerhouse and is located near Nashville. Cumberland College is in rural SE Kentucky.

lhp - Cumberland College (KY) has also been very successful in the NAIA. I just visited their site and they appear to be changing their name though to College of the Cumberlands.

Coach McCormick is right - they do carry a very big roster. I agree wholeheartedly that kids should evaluate their ability/fit there just as with any other school. Coach Shelton (Cumberland in KY) has been very successful with his program and this doesn't happen with a roster that is void of talent.
