Hi all..my son is playing for the Ohio Warhawks in Springfield..and the rest of his family had to stay home in San Francisco. This is the first time we haven't been able to go to every single game and follow the team closely. Does this team get covered in any local papers that we can access on the internet? Also, if anybody has a boy on the team, I'd sure love to compare notes. So far, my son is blown away by the caliber of player..far superior to anything he's seen in California..so it's a great experience for him..Thanks!!

I do not have a direct affiliation with the War Hawks but have seen Ron Slushers team when they have played at the All American tournament in Memphis. He always has a very competitive team and Slusher himself is a very competitve person. I am sure your son will enjoy his time this summer, playing with and against people form all over the country. This will give him a good measuring stick of where he is at and what he needs to work on. Their web address is www.theohiowarhawks.com
Newcomer, I looked at their schedule as my son is playing for a team out of Cincinnati OH this summer. We did play a team, Chilicothe Capitals, that is on your son's schedule. We played them yesterday and they were a fairly solid team. Son had a win until it was lost by our relief. I'll keep my ears and eyes open for any news that might have to do with the Warhawks.

Newcomer - thanks for visiting here and you are welcome anytime
My experiences with summer teams is that they are not covered locally in the sports pages like the high school teams in the spring time, for example. I am guessing there are many reasons. One being that many of the players are not from the local coverage area. Another being economics. Newspapers are not going to send reporters out to remote states and travel destinations to cover something that may only be of interest to the players and families on those respective teams.
That said, generally, what I have found is that tournaments are often covered in the town newspapers that host the respective tournaments. This coverage is more often box score reporting than any type of in-depth article. Thus, if the Warhawks were playing at Midland (Cinci) or Youngstown or Athens, you very likely could get some coverage from the local newspapers in those towns. If your son were to pitch really well or get many hits, they may dedicate a paragraph or two to his exploits. To find a newspaper for a town, try google and type the name of the town hosting the tournament followed by newspaper. The top search results should bring up the link to the local paper
Thanks for thoughtful response, ClevelandDad. I will keep myself busy reading up on local news in these areas and, hopefully, catch a glimpse of some baseball action. My son is greatly enjoying your beautiful state. They drove down to Meigs County two days ago and he described a densely wooded, very rural area that he thought quite lovely.

Newcomer - check the JJHuddle.com forums. The War Hawks have plenty of parents and coaches posting there. They can probably hook you up. You have to go to the other sports forum on the left side.
