It's been rather quiet here in "our" forum. As the parent of a college freshman, I thought some might share their son's experiences here. Whether they be freshmen, a returner, or starting at a new school. Use names if you want - or leave the name off and just share what's happening.

My son is at a JUCO where he is having the time of his life. He's loved his classes so far (hopefully this won't change!). He is a dual kid doing OF and LHP. They have started practices and he's on cloud nine. Never been very flexible and told me last night "Mom, I haven't been able to touch my toes since I was 11 years old - today, I'm touching my toes". He said coach told them they were going to be in the best shape of their lives and that he fully believed that. I'm very thankful for such a great start and would love to hear about some other kids from KY/OH/PA or players going to schools here.

Hope you don't mind a peeping tom from a neighboring state in your forum! Smile My son is a returning player (red-shirt sophomore)....and doesn't start until next week...so I'm enjoying living vicariously thru your posts! Enjoy every second, it goes by way too quickly. Last year when my son was red-shirted due to injury, I thought nothing could be worse. But now...when a new season is approaching...I'm grateful we have an extra year to experience the college life and college baseball because the first two years FLEW by! Glad to hear your boys are enjoying their college baseball experiences so far.....all of our sons are truly blessed to be living out their dreams.

luvbb - You're always welcomed in the room to the south! Please come here and share your son's experience as he comes back this year for what I'm sure will be a great season and one that he's anxiously anticipating.

I'm learning that many people come here and read, but don't post. How they can resist I'll never know! Big Grin Your son's story is one that many people can learn and be inspired from.

I'm one of those lafmom talks about that reads but rarely posts. Here's how it's going so far for my son.

He is a JUCO freshman also - RHP - going to school w/laf's son as his roommate. He is loving the experience so far. So much so that I have to call him, as the only time I have heard from him since he left was if he needs something or has a question.

His dad was finally able to have a phone conversation with him this AM when neither of them were rushed and could really talk about things. There were NO negatives to his conversation. He has a learning disability and academics, rather than athletics, has been my concern with his starting college. I know the kid can pitch, what I worry about is can he get it done in the classroom. He assured his dad he can and will.

Son loves his coaches, his teammates, and is very happy with his roommate (thanks laf greenjump) Small town living seems to be agreeing with him so far. He likes his classes and feels like he can do well in them. Such a relief considering the nightmares I had before he left Smile

luvbb, it's good to hear Joe is back at it. keep us posted on him and the N-Lions.
and you're sure welcome here anytime

My son began his sr yr back at Tech Monday. They'll get into the flow of classes, begin 4 on 1 instruction and conditioning, then during Oct hold their fall practice. He was close to signing professionally this summer, but returning for his sr yr made more sense to him.

Our '06 schedule is not posted yet ClevelandDad, but I see from a CC story that Tech will be at the Beach Tournament

"Coastal's non-conference schedule is once again highlighted by the Baseball at the Beach Tournament in Myrtle Beach where they'll host Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and VCU. Other noteables include games with Virginia, Furman, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Georgia Southern, College of Charleston, East Carolina, and North Carolina. The Chants host both of the other top Big South teams in Winthrop and Birmingham Southern and again host the Big South Tournament."

btw - sebaseball.com is a great site for keeping up to date on college baseball in the Southeast - some content is free, some requires a subscription (but cheap and a good value)

Bee,

Thanks for the update on your son. Wasn't sure if he decided to go pro or not.

Georgia Tech, Tennessee, North Carolina...and all the teams you mentioned - it does not get any better than that in the world of college baseball. That is why we are thrilled to be at Coastal. Hope to see you at the bb@beach tournament.

Bee...thanks so much for the invite into your forum...alas, us Peeeeay (P.A. for you Kentucky gals! LOL) people have no forum to ourselves! Joe is now into the throwing protocal and seems to be doing very well (so we have been told! Smile). He is hoping to DH during fall ball and start behind the plate this spring. The scar is becoming less noticeable, and all is good in our world...for now! LOL. As usual, us northern schools are behind the southern schools....team meeting this coming week and practice/workouts will start soon after. I enjoy reading about your son....can't believe he's a senior already! Glad to see he's back for the senior season. I look forward to keeping track of his progress!

Luvbb - now if you're going to visit us in the south it would be pronounced "Paaay" and nice and slowly!

I'd be happy to send Joe some money, but unfortunately, the bank has called and wanted to inquire why I've been transferring all of my money into this other account. Apparently, I have checks/expenses of my own I've got to cover???? noidea Do you think Michael might send some back? rolleyes If we get this reunion thing to happen - I'll be the redhead with the tin cup outside the hotel! Big Grin

My son had his first official baseball meeting with the team and the coach last night and he couldn't wait to call me with the info he was so excited. He's been away since last Thursday, and it was the first I've heard from him since then, so I was also excited to be the first person he wanted to talk to after his meeting.
CD, you spoke in another post about which is the best college to go to, in a conversation with another poster, and said something like the best college is the one that wants you and the one you like, or something to that effect. Well, after 4 days at school, and this first meeting, my son feels it was definitely Divine Intervention that brought him to where he is.
What a relief to hear such a thing come from your child with so much uncertainty beforehand. My wife and I are ecstatic! We can only pray that it continues for the next 4 years.

Daddybags, That is so cool! It certainly does warm a parent's heart to know that child is happy and content in whatever they've chosen. There's much peace in that! Also, I've learned that they don't like to call home much. I'm trying to ration my phone calls and let him call me, but it's hard! Big Grin

baggs,
a pat on the back for your son
hey, who can argue with "divine intervention" anyway -
you are fortunate he'll have a bunch of games within an easy drive, so you'll soon be planning your vacation days for next spring
from the looks of that schedule you're gonna be busy
oh, if your boss gives you any static about your off time, throw the "devine intervention" at him - how could he refuse that Wink
