cibaseball,

I would love to answer your questions, but I have to recuse myself.

I deal with the coaching staff of WVU on a regular basis. Talking to them about thier potential "drafts" and pitching rotation to see some of the arms. I will be making 4 or 5 trips to Morgantown during the season.

There should be some other folks on here than can help. If you do not get any help or get your questions answered, send me an email and I will be glad to see what I can do.

I met one of their coaches last summer at a tournament and he seems very nice. Don't really know alot about their baseball program however. They are in the Big East and do play some very good teams each year - inside and outside the conference. They had a top 10 BCS bowl team in football and their basketball team is doing well again this year. A linebacker from my son's high school is on the football team and another kid Mike Gansey from near Cleveland is doing well on their basketball team.

cibaseball- You might want to post your question in the "Ask About Colleges" forum also. Maybe someone that might have knowlege, but that doesn't visit our forum might see and be able to help. Hopefully, between the two places, you'll get all your questions answered. Smile

I am a graduate of WVU and have a son that is a sophomore economics major there this year. The school is public state university. Tuition is low for both in and out of state students.
RE Academics; They have excellent degree programs in engineering, forestry and argiculture. They have Air Force and Army ROTC. They have an honors program which is not that difficult to get into. Their entrance requirememts are pretty low and other than the schools mentioned above the classes are not all that difficult. They have a law school and a medical school and they favor their own undergraduates for admission to those schools.

RE the baseball team, i have very little first hand knowledge. the head coach is Greg Van Zandt, a native born West Virginian. I have met Coach Van Zandt on a couple of occassions and have found him to be honest and candid about the baseball program. On the negative side, i know several West Virginia high school players that have either been recruited or walked on and were dissatisfied for one reason or another and transferred after one year. I know of one RHP from West Virginia that i coached that threw 83 MPH as his top speed and he was told if he did not throw 88 mph or above there was no reason to try to walk on a as pitcher. Hope that helps.
