Now that Spalding's not in the picture anymore, they probably stand a better chance in the KIAC.
Scott Cornett does his best to recruit good players. The problem is trying to get a kid to come to ALC and go to school there. Most kids are from surrounding areas. Scott did sign a kid from the Dominican Republic and he is playing this season. And with limited resources, it makes it that much harder.

I am a big fan of Coach Cornett, but he is in the perfect situation for job sercurity. He could have 20 straight losing seasons and still have a job as the skipper. ALC does not care about athletics, and he is baseball in Pippa, Passes KY and the surrounding areas. The school is small and strict, but that does not mean they could not have a successful baseball program. You would just have to recruit a special kind of kid. You would have to get the kind of kid who loves the game, and would love the chance to play college baseball, because the community and school do not have anything to offer.

That is basically true. ALC is about academics. But the Stepps keep the basketball program going. Scott is very passionate about baseball. He is at, almost, every showcase and/or camp within the region. He does his share of scouting. But Scott does work hard for the kids on his team. Alice Lloyd is very strict and do lose a few students because of it. Students pay for tuition in a few ways. Either the parents pay for it, financial aid, or by work study. Students who choose to work at the college has their tuition paid this way. I like the program. The bad thing is that you can't really pick where you work.

You mentioned the Stepps keeping basketball going. That's the same thing that keeps the baseball team from having any accountability. Kentucky is a basketball HOTBEAD, and is the only sport that has accountability as far as wins and losses go.

Union beat down the Eagles of Alice Lloyd last weekend. Union has always had power arms on the mound and some talented position players.

Not the Union I was talking about? Union Ky is coached by Bart Osborne. They play baseball in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and are currently tied for 1st with Tennessee Wesleyan. They've assembled a very strong pitching staff this year, and one of their top arms has been hampered with shoulder problems. If the pitching staff can be healthy by tournament time, they should have a chance to repeat as Region XII champs.

Tas - You're thinking of Georgetown. If they (the school) will continue to grow in support of the baseball program there, it has every potential of becoming a force in the MSC.
