I just heard on the news that Lynn Swann has just announced his candidacy. I guess I wasn't even aware he had any political "presence" in PA. Can any of the PA websters shine any light on this? Not that I want to venture into political territory on our forum duel, but it's always interesting when an athlete turns to politics.

I heard this news today for the first time myself. Not surprisingly, Swann is from the western part of the state (The 'Burgh) and sometimes east and west PA are as different as two different states....so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I hadn't heard news of this before today. Have to admit....I'm interested in learning more about Mr. Swan....candidate for Governor. As of now....I don't think Lynn Swann has any more presence in PA other than that of a former Pittburgh Steeler. Anyone on this sight from Western PA that could perhaps shed more light?

I've actually been following this one. (born in PA, now living in KY, still have relatives in PA (including ones that went to Penn State Smile )

He started considering this some time ago, and has been making speeches and things like that around the state, looking for interest. They made reference to it the other night when he was doing his sideline reporting, since it was his last game, and his partners wished him well in his pursuit of a "higher calling." Given the crowded field, I can't imagine him winning the primary, but you never know, right?

Was listening to talk radio in the car today and they were discussing Lynn Swann's candidacy. The general consensus is that they feel he has a decent shot of getting the Republican party's endorsement. Pro: He's an outsider....Con: He's an outsider

Lynn Swann has what Arnold has and that is name recognition. Will it be enough? It clearly was for Arnold although few out there have the charisma that Arnold seems to posess.

My in-laws from PA were over yesterday and said Lynn Swann's political career appears to be over. Apparently, someone did some checking and he has not voted in the last 18 elections.

When asked about this, Swann said the reason was that he felt like his vote did not count.... Not a great answer for a wannabe politician...noidea

I think several of the long time posters on this web page could run for govenor and win. Same thing as Jessie V or Arnold. The people in Western PA. are sick of the thought of the Penquins leaving and that will be Swann's song. The one thing I can think of will be a split state. Swann will get allot of western Pa. votes and Rendell being ex Philly mayor will get the eastern side. All of Swann's running foe's have dropped out giving him the nod for the race. It will be interesting come the primaries. Once again Philly VS Pittsburgh. Allot of smashmouth talk and promises that never seem to pan out into a good thing. ( sort of like other message boards ). We will see in the upcoming months what exactly is going to come of this but I'm sure every other state has our problems.
