I'm a junior, and I'm hoping to go to it. According to the site, you must have a recommendation from your HS head coach, to attend. He is willing to recommend me, but I don't know how he is supposed to do so. Phone call? E-mail? Letter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This recruiting stuff is constantly on my mind, I've never been so stressed in my life.

Nate - I'm not familiar with this camp - maybe some of our Ohio folks will be. Is it at OSU?

Regardless, I would suggest that you contact whoever is running the camp and ask them for their preference. It will never hurt you for a coach or school to know you have interest in them. Once they clarify the procedure for you, you can then have your coach follow up. I'm guessing that they will probably say any form of communication recommending you is appropriate and fine with them. Gives you a good excuse to contact them though! Smile

You didn't ask for this advice - but I'll give it anyway! Relax and enjoy yourself! While you need to be proactive and aware of what's going on around you, I fully believe the best thing you can do for your chances to play college ball is to perform well on the field and in the classroom. Set a good example for all when off the field in the choices you make in your life.

Best of luck to you and please join us again and feel free to ask questions. You and the other young men around here are what this place is about!

Yes, I believe it's at Ohio State. There are so many colleges that go to the camp.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to relax. I'm just so stressed right now. The only thing I think about right now is trying to get my name out there and get recruited. When I'm not at school, I'm online trying to find information on camps.

I'll e-mail someone who would hopefully know how to recommend me. Thanks for the help.

Hi Nate welcome to hsbbweb

the Buckeye Scout events are pretty worthwhile for local/regional exposure,

the August event has been also called Ohio Top 100 (for rising srs), and if you feel you will fit into that group, you should have a good shot
but it is invite only (plus fee $$) and there are only 100 invites
(there are 88 counties in Ohio, so, all-county caliber would be a guideline for the invite)

take some time & brouse the recruiting tips/timeline section of this site
(there is a pop out menu on the upper left part of this page)

tho Fisher's Buckeye scout events are quality, there are several other outstanding organizations offering BETTER exposure & enough events that you'd have some flexibility in your schedule

visit the PG website for info & schedules on their events - call them if questions -
you can speak to helpful real humans on the phone Perfect Game

TeamOne baseball is OK as well, BUT - no phone, no humans

Class B at Cene also does a summer showcase/recruiting seminar

I understand some stress/worry if you put all your eggs in Buckeye Scout basket - so don't do it - send your coach's letter, then forget about it and concentrate on PG & others - it's not wise to expect much from the OSU event anyway, if it's your first as it's already at summer's end

good luck

.

The Buckeye Scout 100 is an invite only showcase. You do have to be nominated by a coach, scout etc. We have found over the last couple of years that this event is very political! You have to be good but you do have to know someone? IMHO? Several very deserving kids did not get the invite and several kids with marginal DI ablilities are invited. Not to cry over spilled milk but my son was all-conference and all-area first team and played on the NABF National Junior Team at the Tournament of Stars in Missouri and he did not get invited? They told he was a but a lock but the invitation must still be in the mail? But he still got 6 DI scholarships offers last fall and took the offer from the Univ. of Kentucky.

So don't put all you hopes on the Buckeye 100. Sit down and make a list of schools that you think you could or would like to play for. Be honest with yourself, everyone would like to play for Miami of Fla etc. but that just doesn't happen. Write those coaches attend their camps and showcases and ask for info on their programs.

Play for teams that go to tournments that get a lot exposure etc. Play with and against the best players that you can and if you are good you will be seen.

Good luck and get busy!

Alright, thanks for the help guys. I wasn't aware that only 100 players were invited to the camp. I'll just try to explore some other options this summer. Thanks again.

Natedawg - Just because it's only a 100 players, doesn't mean you wouldn't be chosen as one of those 100!!!!! Contact someone and find out the process and have your coach recommend/discuss with them. If you're not chosen, you have nothing to loose - then you can go on to the next opportunity. I think I heard Buckeye saying not to put all your eggs in one basket, but certainly didn't say for you to give up on it if you're interested!!!!

Natedawg,

lafomom was right I did say or mean that you won't get invited to the Buckeye 100. I just didn't want you to be discouraged if you don't. We are prime examples. Just remember you need to be good but you also have to promote yourself. Get to know a lot people and network. It also helps to know the right people sometimes.

a point of clarification

Fish's Top 100 is good, fun for the players to get together & gets colleges & pros
out to a great venue - - NO brat festival like the old days in Bucyrus, tho Frown

also NO more running the 60 on 3" wet grass Smile
(next to a perfectly groomed football field)

also NO more pop times checked on "throwdown bases" paced off in LF - also in 3" grass Confused

it's NOT ideal for college exposure with early NLI in mind because it's too late - (read link)
PG's - Are Times Changing

it has some value for a last look if you are already on their list, as college visits begin
a week or so later

to re-emphasize - make plans for PG ID's etc or a showcase or 2 or beginning asap
after hs ball is over

UK's Weisburg crossed my son off his list at the '01 T-100, noidea

Wow, thanks for all the advice guys and gals. You've been helpful. I'll try to persue the camp while not investing everything in one camp.

Also, forgot to ask. I was going to pay the $50.00 to post my profile on the Buckeye Scout web site. It doesn't mean you're going to the camp, but you send in a picture and it has your high school awards and stuff up on the web page. Has anyone done this or had kids do it? Or, does anyone know if it's worth the money?

Nate - Again, I'll defer to some of the Ohioians on this. However, I bet they say no. I just don't think you get recruited through a website. noidea

Bee - Weissberg was one of my favorite UK coaches. I guess that just goes to show that they all miss some now and again!! UK's loss was Georgia Tech's gain obviously! Wink

I'm with lafmom on voting no on the $50.00. Use that money and send letters and make phone calls or go to a college camp. Natedawg I just noticed you are from Beavercreek? Send me a PM there is a good chance I know you?

Natedawg, My son played against you last year if you play for Beavercreek. If you do, did anything happen to your coach for making that one kid finish his at-bat without using his bat? It had to be one of the worst things I have ever seen a coach do to a player!!!

Ha ha...was that at Wilmington that Coach Woolf did that?

Anyhow, the coach got a warning from the school. Some parents were plenty upset. Coach Woolf was getting on people for taking great 1st pitches. Jerry took one down the middle, and Coach ordered him to finish the at bat without his bat. 2 more pitches and he was out. I thought what Coach did was just ridiculous. But, I still have to respect him as a player.

Anyhow, it was the only game that Jerry's grandpa got to see of him all year. Jerry was worked up and was actually in tears after the game. Hard to see such a tough kid getting emotional.

Also, if I was in Jerry's situation...I would have put my bat down and tried to hit the ball with my hand. I think it would have made a statement to the coach. Then again, I probably would have gotten hurt, lol.

If I was the empire, I would have ordered Coach Woolfe to order the player to pick his bat up and hit.

BTW...I looked up the ruling, and according to the rules...you must have a bat in your hands to be up at the plate. Terrible job by the ump.

Yes, it was at Wilmington and I hope that never happens to another player! What position do you play I might remember you? My son was the pitcher that got the save in the second game I believe. All he could throw was a fastball because he was coming back from a ton of rehab!

Well, I believe I caught both games against Wilmington. I'm not really a catcher, I believe Young was taking SAT's that day or something like that, so I caught. I was an all conference outfielder, but I played 2nd base, 3rd base, I pitched, and I caught. I'll probably be starting at 2nd base this year.

I don't really remember much about who pitched against us that day. I vividly remember the "no bat" inciddent though.

Eh, we just play a doubleheader, I believe every year against them. I think it's like an hour and 15 minutes away, which is a little weird. Usually pretty good games when we play, though.
