Midlo Dad - we don't seem to have too many members from the Pittsburgh area. I think Catcher41 is from the area so hopefully he sees this and generates a report Smile

My son plays for west allegheny high school. We are in the WPIAL which is the western pa hs confrence. We do not play Hampton but they are in the same AAA class and they didn't make the playoffs last year. They have an average team with a couple good players. Steve Pazkors will be one. He can hit the ball a ton. Pitching is average and they are not loaded. They will probably be like any other team trying to get reps and alot of different pitching to get ready for the season. Ours starts the end of March depending on the weather. Currently cold with snow. Takes forever for our feilds to get dry. Don't know if it helps but good luck in VA.
Midlo Dad, what part of VA are you from?

Ruste - welcome to the hsbbweb Smile

I guess I won't be telling people we don't have too many members from Pittsburgh anymore Smile If you get a chance, please update our keeping track thread at the top of this forum with bio information on your son or sons. Again, welcome to the club Smile

Thanks, Ruste.

My son's at James River High School in Midlothian, VA, which is a Richmond suburb. We just got our schedules yesterday and seeing a team from Pittsburgh on there was quite a surprise. Sounds like fun, though!

Lots of Pittsburgh high school teams make a trip south in march once the high school teams are picked. Hopefully they get some good weather and a chance to play on dry fields. Hampton is a AAA team, and usually does very well. They always have some good players that continue on to college ball. My sons legion team played hampton's legion team the last few years. I dont know much about this years high school team as my son graduated last year

Hampton is a AAA school and they are a good team. Usually near or above .500. They finished 5th in their section last year, I believe. They lost to Pine-Richland twice last year, but Pine-Richland always has good baseball teams. (Neil Walker, Pirates number #1 draft choice last year. Andrew McCutchin(sp) was this year's) Let me get back on track. I have never seen them play in person but from what people tell me and looking at their record against teams I have seen it looks like they are a decent team. They were 6-8 in their section (AAA section 1) and 11-9 overall. Finally, from what I hear, their pitching staff is average, I've never heard of any pitchers' names' from there. I doubt I helped any but my knowledge of them is limited. My school is AAAA so I know a little more about those schools than I do AAA.

Well, crud, we made it a good trip for Hampton!

They played Midlothian on Friday. The score didn't run in the paper but I understand it was a complete blowout.

At James River on Saturday, they won 8-7. They outplayed us for the first 5 innings, but we got a game tying grand slam in the 6th. Unfortunately we made two errors on what should've been an inning-ending DP ball in the 7th to give them the winning run.

Our two top pitchers were being saved for district games. Pitcher # 3 took a tough loss on the errors, going 4 innings in relief with only 1 earned run. Our # 4 guy got the start and got hit hard. Chris Beatty of Hampton in particular hit two BLASTS his first two times up, then an RBI single, before we finally got wise and IBB'ed him in the 7th. This is a big guy with a very quick and powerful swing! I was told he's heading to Marietta College, D-3. He looked like a D-1 prospect today.
