I'm currently in Columbus with one of my softball-playing daughters---here for a couple of days......
If anyone is near Columbus and has some time to hang out for a little while, please let me know! I'd love to meet you! If "play softball"'s team wins again this afternoon, we have the day free tomorrow.
Hope to hear from somebody!!!!!

Yes -- I live here in Columbus. Lafmom -- I take exception to your remark
So, Playbaseball, welcome to Columbus! Where is the softball tournament taking place? And how long will you be here? Please let me know if I can be of service!

lafmom--they won this morning, 1-0, in the bottom of the 6th inning. VERY dramatic, even though they play 7 (or the time limit) !!!! So they play again at 6:30-------------------and if they win again, they play tomorrow at 1:15. And you know what THAT means!!!!!!!! I have to leave tomorrow by the late afternoon...with or without her.......Her "win column" in a national tournament continues to grow to 3......And the beautiful thing is that they continue to play as a team..................So so far, so good!
Nick took Kelly to the doc this morning and she got the "all clear" which poses another set of challenges about HER nationals in Montgomery and the try-outs looming for a new team. I'll keep you posted.

Ah oh! You might have to go buy a couple more pieces of clothing! You should share your luggage (or lack of) story!

Beezer-- No, our tournament started with the opening ceremonies on Sunday and pool play on Monday. What a huge complex!!!!!! It's great to have some breathing room between fields without needing a hard hat for all of the errant foul balls----and room to practice before the games.
lafmom-----We lost last night----to the 2007 winner---by the score of 2-0. We hung with them until the top of the 7th when they scored the 2 runs on errors......We were VERY proud of the girls, except the 2 college girl coaches---they blasted them for the poor fielding....?????? They played great. The other pitcher was fabulous---15 strike-outs! So we have 4 games today to play tomorrow....don't think that is going to happen. Again, drama......
Nope--laundromat......
Okay, how many of us HAVEN'T loaded up the car with all the stuff we have to load up with....and then got distracted by a phone call and then told yourself that yougottagetoutahereNOW!!!!!!! because you have to stop to get enough gas to drive to a state with cheaper gas....and then drove off without your own piece of luggage?????? Hands?????? Thank goodness for the all-night Meijer in Dayton!!!!!!
Speaking of cheap gas prices!!!!!!!!!! When I got gas in Chicago, I paid $4.39/gallon........at the BP and Mobil across the street from our hotel it's $3.74!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Toledo! I mean Columbus!!!!!!!

Sounds like you're having a great time! Would have been fun to have an Hsbbw get together... What age level are we talking here? PS- That would be the players age, not yours.

Absolutely! We have to maintain a LITTLE dignity here.
At any rate, though I wasn't able to make it down to Berliner to see any games, I did have a chance to connect with PlayBaseball via cell phone this afternoon. We had a great conversation! Sure wish we had been able to figure out a way to get together while they were here. It does bring to mind a certain guys-and-gals get together we had at a micro-brewery here in Columbus a few years ago with me,IB, Lafmom, Luvbb and , doesn't it?
Anyway, I thought our family was a busy one, but PlayBaseball's has us beat by a mile!! And we can all identify with her being in an unfamiliar city where you have to remain until the double-elimination thing happens--however long it takes. After a few days, you just want it to be OVER, and you may actually root for a loss (oops--the baseball gods will smite me for that one ). Anyway, regardless of the outcome of her daughter's game this afternoon, she is on her way back to the Windy City. Hope she lets us know how it all turned out.
I enjoyed talking to you, Annette. Maybe when your 12 year old comes for the same tournament another summer, we can make sure we connect then.

And count me in! I had told Annette back a few months ago that I'd love to come up for this tourney. If it would have included a weekend, I'd have been there!
Annette, they do have us beat on the gas. I looked today and it was around 3.89-3.87 here. Which somehow I feel grateful that it isn't the 4.15 it was a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing how many more motorcycles and bikes you see on the road. That's kinda tough to transport ball players and equipment with though! Not if you leave your luggage at home though!!

Well, we sure would enjoy seeing you up here in Columbus again, Lafmom. Maybe this time I can talk you into accepting a little overnight hospitality instead of driving all the way back to Lexington in the middle of the night!
Unfortunately for you and me, Laf, my plans for meeting you for lunch in Lexington while on my way down to visit #1 son and family in the Cumberland Gap have been dashed. They will be relocating to Toledo next week. It is not as scenic as where they live now (I will miss those Tennessee mountains!), but the opportunity for both of them is exciting. Not to mention that I'll only be 2 hours away from those grandsons instead of 5

Kathy, I'm so excited that the babies will be so close to you. I know that brings many blessings to you and Mr. lhpx2 that you will treasure! Those mountains and Lexington will still be there.
We do all need to get together sometime soon. And if it's in Columbus, I'll be staying this time! That was one of the worse drives I've ever done - too dark and too wet for someone getting "old" vision!

IB--my daughter was on a 14U team, and this was a huge national tourney--NSA 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U.
Yes, sportsfans, my daughter's team was indeed eliminated Thursday late afternoon----after winning their first game --- that was ok, I had 1.25 hours to hang out by myself-----just me and my very own personal GPS system: lhpx2! She was so kind to direct me to where I had in my head where I wanted to go! So lhpx2, I DID find my way to that itty-bitty book-binding museum (in a carriage house--very charming), then I peeked into the Topiary Gardens park or whatever it's called----pretty but a little ummmm unique, THEN found the Capitol without the dome, I mean the "Statehouse", found a parking space and explored the inside! It was set up for the LiveStrong conference so it was decorated with yellow sunflowers--very lovely. Downtown Columbus is very nice. I wish I had more time to explore.
On to the game-----my daughter got hit just above the elbow (hugely swollen but she's fine...what a surprise!), couldn't bat but it was not her throwing arm so she could field.....They were losing but threatened in the bottom of the 7th inning.....down 3-1, bases loaded and no outs......held my breath---it's already 4:30---my last possible comfortable time to leave was 4---one run scored and our big hitters were up.....my heart was sinking fast.....and then lightened!!!! I was never so happy when the BEST hitter struck out to end the game, our tournament, and our season!!!!! No tears from me --or my daughter! Whee!!!!! Even though there was LOTS of drama, they played well as a TEAM and only allowed 5 runs in 6 games. Lots of exciting softball, all close games, no blow-outs.
A very uneventful drive home followed, happily WITH my daughter, highlighted with a fill-up of gas at $3.65/gallon! Yes, I am totally obsessive about gas prices! And came home just in time to say goodbye to my 12-yr-old daughter who left early on Friday morning to her ASA national tourney in Montgomery, Alabama.....considered driving her down, everyone flew but one family....but after all the drama in Columbus, I just couldn't do it. She got the all-clear from her ortho doctor on Wednesday to play....she broke her arm on the first day of summer vacation--got collided into on her bike, fell and snapped one bone in her arm and bent the other bone in the same arm--she required surgery to fix them ....of course! Anyway, the whole summer all she did was ask if she could play at nationals.....sigh.........
Good thing I didn't go to Alabama because my 18-yr-old son, the one who is perpetually injured, is playing in his Babe Ruth's regional tourney....in a far suburb of Chicago....I don't want to jinx him, but this is his first injury-free summer since he was 10. Yes, I hold my breath....
So that is that! I loved hanging out in your state---and posting here! When you get together, let me know......I just may join you! And of course, if you ever find yourself in Chicagoland or its far-reaching suburbs like Milwaukee or South Bend, let me know, too!

Oh, where IS the bubblewrap I told you to find? I know it's hot out there when playin' ball.... but?!?!?!?!
Some friends of ours are up there in IL for a babe ruth tourney somewhere. He's just 13 though.... so probably different locale. Good luck to C! And if we get together again one day, I'll call you personally with the info!

lafmom, We played the team from Okolona, KY, a suburb of Louisville, yesterday. We have never really played Babe Ruth before, only travel teams, but this is actually kind of fun.....different, but fun.
I know...the bubble wrap....makes me think about the Mr. Rogers episode --it was an opera, actually---"There's no trouble in Bubbleland".....
