A few games were played yesterday and some today, but tomorrow starts the bulk of the games to determine Kentucky's ONE baseball champion. Just like in basketball, Kentucky only crowns one state champion in baseball, and it makes for great games! Good luck to all those out there, and even better luck to the Generals! Big Grin

John, Best of luck to my guys! I think they play TC, but where's our district at this year?

The games are at LCA this year, all of them starting at 5:30. The schedule is:

Mon. Lafayette/Tates Creek

Tue. Lafayette/Tates Creek winner v. Lexington Catholic

Wed. Dunbar v. LCA

Thur. Tuesday's winner v. Wednesday's winner.

The amazing thing (as always) about this district is that by Wednesday night, 3 of the top 20 teams in the state of Kentucky will be guaranteed to be eliminated from the post-season, because all 5 of the teams are ranked in the top 20!

John, It is IMO the toughest district in KY. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I've felt all year that LCA has been the strongest team I've seen when you consider all areas of the game. Not that I'm hopin' for them to win it! Wink

See y'all tomorrow night! Tell D good luck and to keep workin' hard!

A tough one knocks the Generals out in the first round, losing 8-7 to Tates Creek in extra innings. The boys fell behind 5-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd, but never gave up, fighting back and even taking a 6-5 lead, but it was not their night. A valient game, and it was sad watching those seniors end their high school career, knowing that I'll watch my son do the same next year.

A break for a couple of days and then it's on to summer ball!

How true that is. It will be interesting to see what your reaction might be next year. It is indeed a very emotional experience for most kids that play because that is essentially the end of their careers.

John - They did make a good come back and made for an interesting game. They're a young team and show a lot of promise for the future. Michael just really likes Tommy every time he sees him pitch and feels like he'll be able to really contribute. The guys will all be older and have some experience next year to take them further in the playoffs!

Win or loose, I love my Generals!!! Smile

Our Generals are always loved! The boys could hold their heads high tonight, they didn't give up and it showed. They lost to a good team, and recovered from a really bad start to play very well.

CD, for most of the seniors (in fact, probably all but 1) that was the last competitive baseball game they will ever play. Lafayette is a very young team, only 3 of the starting 9 tonight had ever started a playoff game before, and the grand majority of the starting lineup and pitching staff will be returning for next year.

Listen to me, the season hasn't been over 4 hours and I'm talking about next year already! Smile

Sorry to hear about the loss, JL7. Give my best to the boys. I hope to see the team during the Summer.

Knott Central will play today at 4:30. They will be playing a much improved Cordia team. And I really hope that our boys aren't overlooking them. Almost happened to the best team in the 14th last night. Leslie County played Buckhorn and Buckhorn was leading 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Leslie gets a run and Buckhorn makes a pitching change and end up losing 5-3.

But, the best news is that the sports doc says that B can play. In his opinion, the thumb is ready. Coach won't let him catch any games, so B will be at short for the duration.

Excellent news about B! He may not be behind the plate, but he's still on the field! Make sure they don't overlook those teams. . . .last night, Henry Clay was down to Sayre 3-1 after 3 innings. Granted, they eventually came through and won by run rule in the 6th, but those upsets really can happen.

Wasn't Leslie County the last undefeated team in the state?

Yep, Leslie was the last. Their record stands, right now, at 22-4. I'm sure there were a few of us rooting for Buckhorn. Never count anyone out. Same thing happened in the 14th Region tournament last season. Lee County overlooked Knott and we beat them. Lee was probably the 2nd top team in the region last season. So, they learned a big lesson. And I think Leslie, probably, learned their's last night.

I don't think coach will let them forget that they can't overlook anyone. One game at a time.

John, I hadn't even checked the other scores from last night. I can see where Henry Clay would overlook Sayre and for that matter, the rest of their district! Roll Eyes

I told Michael that I thought Fucci's face had a look of "that **** Lafayette" last night when the boys went ahead. Smile TC and Lafayette have always been a great and close game when meeting in district. However, in the end, it was he and the 'dores that were smiling. Frown That's ok - wait 'till '07!!!!

Glad to hear your son is going to play tas Smile

Oh well...if you can't play catcher right now, shortstop is not such a bad position Big Grin

Thanks CD. Shortstop was B's original position. I believe he'd much rather be there than behind the plate. He wouldn't tell coach that, though. LOL

Knott Central won last night over Cordia 6-5.

B is still rusty after coming back from the injury, but did make a couple of good plays in the field to get some much needed outs.

Don't know if anyone has ever done this or would want to, but, Knott's coach used a different pitcher for each of the first 3 innings. Then in the 4th he brought in his 1st inning pitcher to pitch the 4th and 5th. In the 6th he brought in the 3rd inning pitcher. And then finished the game with his 3rd inning pitcher. All this while keeping all the pitchers on the field somewhere. Strategy almost didn't work. None of the pitchers could get a groove going. Talk about a stats nightmare. Eek

Knott plays Letcher Central for the chamionship. LCC has beaten Knott twice this season.

Congrats on the win, you're still playing, and that's what counts at this time of the year! (although, I must say that the pitching "rotation" as it were did seem a bit odd Smile

43rd district in KY final will be Dunbar (topdogfan's sons HS) vs Lexington Catholic. From district, the top two teams get to go on to regionals, so congrats to both of these teams whoever wins! Sometimes, seeding can actually work to the advantage of the runner up of district!

It looks like it might be a wide open year in the baseball tournament in Kentucky. 6 of the top 20 teams in the state have been eliminated in the first stage of the playoffs. To be fair, 3 were going to be eliminated no matter what, because the 43rd District had 5 of the top 20 teams in the state, and only two could move on. However, two of the perennial powers in the western part of the state, Owensboro Catholic (#3) and Owensboro Apollo(#12) were eliminated, and the #18 team (West Jessamine) was also eliminated.

Knott lost to Letcher 11-1. It was a very good game until the bottom of the 4th when Knott allowed 6 runs. Letcher was swinging at everything. The 1st inning Knott's pitcher didn't record a strike or a ball. All batters swung at the first pitch and connected. B drove in the only run for Knott.

The 14th region is going to be wide open this year. Leslie, #1 team in the region, lost to Perry Central in their district championship and Wolfe County won their district. The only teams we haven't beaten that are in the tournament are Leslie, Letcher Central, Powell, and Lee. We didn't face Lee or Powell because of rain. We'll find out Sunday who we will face.

Well, Knott's season is officially over. KC was beaten by Perry Central 7-2 yesterday. B drove in one run. And threw a runner out at 3rd. It was about 82 degrees at gametime. Both teams looked tired by the end of the 6th.
