I hope everyone has had a truly wonderful day with their family and friends. I hope that day also included some very thoughtful gifts from Santa!
I was reading a thread in the General Forum and shared the same gift with another poster - my son's GPA. He brought home a 3.4 for his first semester in college. All the money in the world couldn't have bought me anything to make me more happy! However, I did get a new purse that I've been eyeing for quite some time!
Anyone else get anything really special to them this year? Any baseball surprises?

I had a very nice, relaxing day today. Had my side of the family over last night and for the first time in years, didn't have to go to my sister-in-law's for dinner today. That alone, made for a stress free day. We could all relax and nap when we wanted to and had an easy dinner of left overs from yesterday. Catching up on wash and movies tonight. No worrying that the boys would have a good laugh at dinner, which isn't really allowed at my in-laws. Went to visit my dad who wound up in the hospital w/double pneumonia for the holidays.
As for Christmas surprises, my older son who just moved out Sept. 23rd, moved back in yesterday. Decided it was better to keep his best friends than to live with them. Hubby is depressed since he was hoping to get rid of one of them. I just laughed 'cause I figure they usually come back at least once. At least now, I may get some "rent" to help with the water bill at least. Such is life!
Hope everyone else had a nice day also but glad it's only once a year.

That's nice lafmom - keep up the great mom work and you'll always have special gifts. As for me, just seeing my 4 yr., and 1 yr. olds "ripping" wrapping paper off their presents is a gift to me. I did get a baseball movie - "Fever Pitch." Haven't watched it yet. Is it a good movie?

PAbbMom - Sounds like you deserved a stress free day in your stocking! Hope your dad recovers quickly.
Squeeze- I rented Fever Pitch a couple of weekends ago and never got around to watching it. I've heard it's good and Boston is one of my favorite teams. I got Monster In Law for Christmas - I've seen it before and it's a hoot. Both my kids tell me that they can see glimpses of me in the character!?!?!?!?! BUT, just like the characters in the movie, if my son answered his phone the first time I called him, I wouldn't have to call repeatedly! Glad those little ones enjoyed their day too! Those are very special years!

My baseball son got a baseball shaped alarm clock. The cool thing about it is that you shut it off by throwing it against the wall - he loves it. He also got a baseball player pendant and LeBron James jersey he really likes. My daughter got most of her stuff from Hollister which I had not heard of before - she seemed very happy. Funny thing about girls, their Christmas pile of gifts always seem the largest. My older son got smaller, more expensive things.
As far as blessings go, I guess we got one after a scare last night. My wife became violently ill with the flu - so much so I had to take her to the hospital last night around 8:30. After a couple liters of iv, she recovered well enough that they sent us home around 10:30 for which I am most thankful for Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
CD...OH NO!!!! Sad to hear you had such an "eventful" Christmas evening...but glad to hear that your wife is recovering rather quickly!
My most special memory of yesterday was just having my three kids all under one roof and just sitting back and watching them "needle" each other thruout the day. I think this is the last Christmas I am going to have a "believer" in Santa under my roof, as my 8 year old has been asking some "strategic" questions the past couple of months. It won't be the same next year without any little one's putting that plate of cookies and glass of milk out on Christmas Eve for Santa . Which begs the question......Lafmom....does Santa drink Ale-8 when he comes down the chimney in Kentucky?
My two FAVORITE gifts....one was the fact that my daughter was able to make it home from Fordham as the NYC transit strike wrecked havoc on her travel plans and alot of improvising needed to be done to get her home. Second most favorite gift was the fact that on Christmas Eve...my son actually turned OFF his cell phone as we settled in for our traditional viewing of the "Christmas Story". Nope, he didn't even put it on vibrate! It was OFF! Don't even know the LAST time THAT happened, without us having to ask.

Re: Monster-In-Law and you seeing shades of yourself in the Jane Fonda character. When that movie came out, my son was dating a miserable "witch" that I COULD NOT STAND! When my daughter and I went to see that movie...I literally shrank down in my seat because I could see ALOT of myself in that character. Hate to admit it....but it is the truth! Luckily, my son is now dating a girl I absolutely adore and I can't envision ANY of that "Monster-in-law" character in me. Which leads me to the scientific conclusion....it isn't US, it is the GIRL who is dating our sons that determines our actions!

PAbbMom & CD - hope your loved ones recover quickly!!
Other than the illnesses, sounds like everyone had a great Christmas. I need to see that 'Monster-in-law' movie. Hopefully I won't see myself in one of the characters
My special gift was that my son went with me to the late Christmas Eve service at our church and had communion with me. It was a very special time, and enjoyed more than anything I could have had under the tree

Thanks all for the good wishes - she is doing much better this morning. We really did have a fine Christmas until the very end Now I get to just chill out on the hsbbweb all day
CD - SOOO sorry to hear about your wife's bout with the flu. I can relate, but fortunately on a slightly smaller scale. We always laugh that someone in our family gets the flu at Christmas -- it happens almost every year. Well, this year it was ME. It pretty mich ruined Christmas Eve for me, but I recovered enough to enjoy Christmas a bit. There's some nasty stuff going around out there...
I would also like to know more about that alarm clock. We have a birthday coming up soon and it sounds perfect...

Why of course - is there any doubt?!?!?
tdf - You do need to see it - it's very funny!
lhp - Sorry you've been sick too! I think we need to quarantine all the Ohio people for a while!

Just finished "Fever Pitch" and it was a decent baseball movie. Especially if you're a Red Sox fan. I really appreciated the details that described the "passion" and dedication of a loyal fan. It sord of reminded me of myself when I was a child. A looooong time ago! Boy, it's so right when someone called professional baseball players "adults playing a child's game." Boy, I'd love to experience that. I guess that's why kids continue to play. That makes this game special!
