I've talked with a couple of people recently about what career paths/college majors their sons intend on taking. I find it curious as many of our boys plan/hope to continue a job linked to baseball.
Just interested in what job or career your son plans on having. I think we can assume that many of them (my own included) would love to have a career in professional baseball. However, if that's not the life journey he ends up with, what does he plan on doing with his life?
This question is not only for our college guys, but would like to hear plans of our HS and younger as well.

lafmom....good question, and I'll be eager to read everyone's responses.
As for my son, he's a secondary ed major in both history (social studies) and english. Of course, he dreams of playing beyond college, but best to be prepared if that dream doesn't pan out. He has toyed with the idea of going to Law School (personally, I think he would make a GREAT litigator as he can argue his position to a brick wall and make the brick wall change its mind! ). But, secondary ed would allow him to coach and be a presence both on the field and in the classroom....which is what he ultimately wants to do.

LOL - That's exactly son's most probable path. Secondary Ed in History with a hope to coach at the college level. He did discuss and consider sports management and I could see him going in that direction too depending on what 4 year he ends up choosing.
Just as I never had any doubt that my son would play college ball (he would have played for tim buck too college if he had too), I have no doubt that baseball will always be a part of his life in some capacity. It's just a part of who he is.

I have kind of counceled my son toward a technical education since it has worked well for me. His school doesn't have an Engineering program so he is majoring in Computer Science for the time being. He has also expressed interest in the past with physical therapy and athletic training.
"Athletic Training." BRILLIANT! CS (Cleveland Son) needs to transfer 5 hours up the road to LIBERTY UNIVERSITY. I hear they have one of the more outstanding A.T. programs around.
Anyhow, JT, Jr is looking towards Sports Management with a minor in coaching, and perhaps get his Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.

My son is majoring in telecommunications Systems Management.....So far it has been baseball related in the fact that he seems to be the "computer fix-it guy" with his teammates and even one of the coaches....He also puts together the CD of music for each players "at-bat intro song" for the PA announcer..
I think he would be a good coach someday...But he said he didn't think he could coach his own kids, he'd be to hard on 'em.....
GO 'BREDS !!!

The closest mine ever got to declaring a major was at the tail end of an 0 for "a whole bunch" slump as a freshman. He called on the phone and said: “Dad, what should I do if this baseball thing doesn’t pan out?” Sounded pretty good at the time. Hey, it’s all relative! Fungo

Mine is combining Business with Kinesiology (sort of putting together his own sport management degree). He, too, has interest in computer science, but the class schedules didn't work well with baseball -- almost all of them meet in the afternoon and evenings, which are "no-no's" for athletes.
In keeping with what TPM had to say, he and his brother have talked about getting a Chipotle franchise (if you don't know the brand, it is extremely popular with teens and young adults around here)and opening them in every college town they can think of...
