My son was recently faced with a very difficult decision of changing schools before he ever got started at the first one.

The support from this site during his journey has been absolutely unbelievable. He had two websters refer him to schools. One who knew my son outside of the website, but had no reason except compassion to step in and do this. Another, who had no idea if referring my son might embarrass him or his reputation.

We were in a hotel room one night with the first visit being the next day and the phone rings from a poster wishing him good luck and offering advice. I've received PMs with support, information, and encouragement.

I will always be amazed at what HSBBW offers us. Once again, I will say it has been a HUGE blessing in our lives. Thanks to all. You're the best!!!

Congrates lafmom.

I am not aware of the story about your son's situation but I can tell you that my son's fisrt 2 years have been a roller coaster ride. I do agree with you in that the HSBBWeb has been a tremendous resource for us also. I feel now that he is set where he is going for the final 3 years, he will shine and show the ability that everyone in the Chicago area has seen in him. He is more relaxed and back to "just playing baseball like I have done for my whole life"...his quotes while playing in a semi-pro league and hitting close to .400 with wood bat...and getting noticed by scouts who will be following him

Life is good again and the world is on it's proper axis...in our house clap

We understand that sigh od relief that you are feeling

Md - My son simply made a decision to change schools after the head coach left. This was so tough because we did like the school very much. The school itself was having some issues that when combined with the coaching change made him question if it was wise to continue there. We'll always remember the folks at that school fondly and feel blessed that we got to know them. We just had to for the first time in his "baseball life" put what was best for him ahead of what was best for a team, etc.

I'm glad to hear that your son is excited about his decision as well. I think he did make a great choice and please keep us posted on his progress and how things go there. I did see where they voted to stay DII, although many in this area think they'll revisit that in a couple of years.

ALL decisions in regard to our kids are difficult ones. Glad the rocky, limbo period is over for your son and your family. Good luck to him at his new school!

Is this heaven?...

No, lafmom. Thanks to YOU! Michael is fortunate to have you helping with what could have been an overwhelming experience. I know you spent many hours sorting through all the information trying to help your son make the best decision. This is a crucial time in their lives and they do need some help. They need to make the right decision but they’re not experienced enough to sort through and comprehend all the data. Your greatest reward will come when he fully understand and appreciates what you’ve done.
Best of luck! clap

Thanks for posting what I was just typing Fungo.

Seriously, for those who don't know her that well, lafmom has become an expert at the recruiting game. She is also very knowledgable on the Kentucky college scene and can provide an enlightened view point for those considering playing baseball and going to school there.

Michael is very lucky indeed!

Hey Tas - Michael is in Indianapolis today through Sunday for a tournament, so I'll need my baseball fix locally. Do you all play at 10am on Friday? I know I won't make that, but do you all play Friday evening or Sat? I need to call and get a schedule. Hopefully, I'll see you and the other KC folks!

lafmom,
My son is really looking forward to going to NKU. Where did you see that they voted to stay DII?. Believe it or not, one of my son's concerns were that they WOULD go DI as coach Asalon told him they might. He really wasn't looking forward to putting an aluminum bat in his hands full time after having nothing but wood in them for the last 2 1/2 years.
I understand about the decision to put his best interests ahead of the teams. I also have one who is a total team player but he had to do they same thing this year.
Sounds like your son is lucky to have such a caring mom, who worked to make sure he had all the information he needed to make a good decision for himself. Good luck to him and you!

Md - I'm not sure where I got the info, but I've looked and found you an article. Hopefully, this link will work - there's some folks here that can tell you I am challenged with technology!

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200...1/507140346/1088/SPT

Hope that works - there are a couple of Cincinnati newspapers that carry lots of stories on NKU as it's right there. I think you are right - I believe NKU made the correct choice. If if ain't broke why fix it - they have a very good program and many baseball players come there specfically because they use wood. It's what interested my son too. Looks like their board made a wise decision for many reasons, but again they may not stay DII down the road. Make sure and let me know what your son thinks of school and program.

Thanks for the link lafmom. I forwarded it to my son who is in Chicago playing for the summer. I am sure it will put a smile on his face. He passed on opprtunities to play DI so he could play with wood. He figures "when it is all said and done, doesn't matter much what division you've played, it is how you played".

Hard to argue that prospective

Mde - I agree with that perspective wholeheartedly!

Tasmit - Great to meet you and family today. I'm sending you a PM regarding a couple of school choices you mentioned. Because of where you live, I think Brandon will have to work harder on exposure than what we did. However, he's got a great arm, attitude, and stick, so I'm sure he'll get noticed and he's got two years left! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend in Lexington - I ordered up the bit of a breeze just for you!!!! Smile

It was great meeting you as well.
Thanks for the breeze. It was brutal yesterday. I stayed in the corner next to the dugout most of the day. And only left when a ball was hit to the outfield. Brandon does OK. He was in a slump of sorts this weekend. He got a couple of hits in our last game. My wife was worried about him catching in the heat. I told her that the ump is right behind him leaning over and providing "some" shade. She felt a little better. biglaugh

I sent you a PM.
