Not to be redundant, BUT....Just wanted to bring this article posted by Coach Merc, and printed in entirety by 123Kmom in the General Forum ("Must Read for Player's Parents). Not sure if everyone here frequents the General Forum, so I thought it worthwhile to post a link to the article here. VERY informative and important info re: mental health and collegiate athletes. I really had NO IDEA that sports psychologists were not on EVERY collegiate athletic staff. Sobering article....and a very important one, IMO.

CD is absolutely correct. It is a problem for the general population. What makes suicide unique in the teen population is that they don't have the coping skills that we often acquire as we get older and many times they have difficulty perceiving the "finality" of suicide.

Most of the statistics I've read actually have suicide in the teenage population fluctuate as the #1 cause between it and motor vehicle accidents. Like the article points out, males are usually more successful because of the route they typically choose.
