It's February 15, and at this very moment, tryouts have started at my son's high school. While he's a junior, he treats tryouts as once again a reminder that coach doesn't have to keep him on the team, so he works his butt off during them. He's just so excited that by tomorrow evening, they will be a TEAM, and can get ready for the season. Is it just me, or was this off-season LONG?
Now, John you wouldn't be asking that question if you'd read the other threads!!!! Very excited here!
Seriously, we've all been axious to hear from you, Tasmit, and our other KY dads who's sons are finally geting to begin the spring journey today! Can't wait to hear all the news, including a scouting report on new guys as well as how the "old" ones look!
I saw Adam R at a basketball game and he said he felt they all had been looking "good". Can't wait to get a report and good luck to D.!

It has been a long time in between the seasons. And ours has to wait another day or so. No school this week, so far. Hopefully, they'll be on the field this time tomorrow.

After tryouts, and obviously making the team is not an issue for either of your boys, I would be interested in hearing how strong you think their respective teams are and why. Thanks.
CD, I'll let you know. I'm hoping that our boys can expand on what they did last season. We only lost one player, best OFer we had and a he was a LHP, as well. But we still have a lefty and a very good OFer to make up for it. The only thing we'll miss with the former player is his bat. He hit very well last season.

The key word to describe my son's team this year is "young." There is only one returning starter coming back to the infield, and only one returning regular starting pitcher. They only have to replace one regular outfielder, but those are going to be darn large shoes to fill. (and I'm not saying this just because I happen to know a certain moderator :-) It's tough to replace a starting CF with power who hits at the top of the order) With only 5 returning seniors, the junior class is going to have to really step up. It's their turn though!
However, my son's reaction, after the first day was "Dad, we're going to be better than a lot of people think we are." I like that reaction.
John, I've said before that they are really in a very good position. It's much better to have people underestimate you than vice versa IMO. The boys may have a few nerves coming out of the gates, but there is a lot of talent on that team. I can't wait to follow them this year!
Thanks for those kind comments on that CF. His momma thinks pretty highly of him too!

Well, it looks like B, and maybe C, will have to wait another couple of days. B woke up this morning feeling pretty bad and congested. Took him to the doc and doc says no practice or school for two days. No bronchitis or pnuemonia(SP), but he is sick. He was prescribed some Zicam. Hopefully, by Saturday, he'll be ready to go. If it's not raining.
C's just an 8th grader and is trying out for the middle school team and the JV team. This morning he was rambling around gettting ready for school. I told him that we needed to go before he was late. He was in his room. And I wondered what he was doing. He came through the kitchen and I remembered him having his jacket and shoes on. After I came back from dropping the kids off, I was going through the house turning off lights that didn't need to be on. I walk into his room and there was the reason he was rambling around and almost late. He was getting all his gear put into his baseball bag. And left it on his bed ready for tryouts. I believe he's anxious to get started.
