I had the pleasure of meeting one of Ohio’s finest last evening. The one we call “Beezer”. We were both in Memphis and decided to meet up at Auto Zone Park to take in a college baseball game between the University of Memphis Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels. While it was a bitterly cold night in Memphis which is known for its warm spring evenings, it was still very pleasurable watching some good baseball and having a great conversation with another Webster. It was refreshing to hear the excitement in the voice of a fellow Webster and the father of a 13 year old ballplayer when he spoke of the HSBBW and the baseball unknowns that his son will face in the near future. It reminded me of years gone by. Beezer, it's obvious your sons (and daughters) are in good hands. Good luck to them ..... And to you!

Fungo - Sounds like you boys had a good time! Smile Beez is one of my favorites too, so glad you all got to meet up despite less than perfect weather! It's a blessing to share in the lives of all the wonderful folks around here!

Thanks for sharing that story Fungo. I always suspected Beezer was a good guy Big Grin

Seriously, I think it is awesome when interactions can leave the domain of the message board and end up with friendly relations in person. BTW, we are planning a little mini hsbbweb get together the weekend of May 19th in Columbus Ohio if you can make it. The games that weekend features a Big Ten matchup between Penn State and Ohio State.

Thanks for the reminder about our planned get-together the weekend of May 19, CD. We're hopeful that we might also get a chance to meet up with Beezer as well...

WOW....Thanks Fungo! I don't think we have a "Gee I blushing" smiley, but if we did, I'd use it. Yes, it's true, The Great Fungo and I took in the Memphis / Ole Miss game last night and I think I had frostbite before the game was over. It was fun to get to see a good college game in a very nice venue but being able to take it in with Fungo is what made the night worthwhile! What an amazing guy. I'm very lucky to have him as a friend! The funny thing is that a great deal of our conversations revolved around many of YOU!!! As I told him last night, I'm very honored to be around such great people with a wealth of knowledge and experiences. I can't even fathom what will transpire over the next 5 years but regardless of what journey life will give my son, friends like all of you will make it even more enjoyable.

Woodrow - Kind of tough to win with 5 E's! But to their defense, I think a couple of times the kids were distracted by Fungo's HOT Chocolate.

That was good hot choclate. Beezer and I did have a conversation about the adult beverages being sold at the concession stands of a college game. Since this game was being played at a AAA park I guess they were following the the policy of "When in Rome do as the Romans do". noidea

You guys are having way too much fun! But I wasn't sure if a feller was actually allowed to write "HOT" in those fancy letters on this public website!
I wanted to watch a baseball game with Fungo, why do YOU always get to do all the fun stuff? Thinking of you guys watching the game reminded me of the time I went to Atlanta to watch a weekend series with another guy.(can't seem to remember his name) But anyway, I think it may have been in the last game and we had a redshirt freshman (in the minors now) warming up in the bullpen, there were some students from the frat house across the street sittin on a brick wall drinkin beer behind the bullpen catcher, and they were heckling the poor kid warming up. For some reason one of his warmup pitches got away from him and he missed the catcher by TEN feet! Knocked a poor frat kid (the one with the biggest mouth) right off the fr***in wall! dummhead Then he stomped out to the mound and won the dadgum game!

It's OK to write Hot Chocolate. It's words like Hot ***** that gets censored. I don't understand it. I would like to do a poll some time to se if ***** is really a bad word.

IB, Sounds like the feller in the bullpen had excellent control and pretty good velocity too. Big Grin Big Grin

Fungo - It was good! Funny but my fingers were so numb I didn't even notice when I spilled some on my hand. Maybe I should've consumed some of them there ice cold beverages....it might've warmed me up a bit. And I certainly didn't have to worry about driving! I was just jealous watching the others happily consuming them, oblivious to the cold.

What word did you use that got ***ed out? Again Fungo, many thanks for joining me. I guess the starter for Ole Miss is only a frosh. Looked pretty sharp out there.

IB - Did the guy you went to ATL with have a son who hailed from the Streaky Blue team over there?

Not distracted by Fungo, by the steaming hot cocoa he was slurping down. And no, there were no sit ins on the field....too darned cold. Shoot, we walked in the gate and didn't stray too far. I'm thinking our shoes mighta been froze to the ground. Funny thing too Woodrow, you'da thunk I was with the mayor of Memphis....or maybe the Govenor of TN??? Fella knew half the crowd!!!
