They won the OVC last year. The talent level looks to be picking up around there. Coach McDonald is in his first year there.

Maybe Bluegrass will jump in here, his son is a CF freshman. I'm sure he'll be able to fill you in.

Good Luck!!

coons2004,

03parent is right, my son is a freshman CF at Murray State.

Coach Rob McDonald and his staff are in their first year. McDonald is an alum of the school as was an assistant at the U. of Memphis for 8 yrs. My son has been very pleased with the staff. They work you hard, but they are fair with alot of indiviual attention. It is a very positive atmosphere, with a renewed interest in baseball.

The school has unveiled renovation plans for a new indoor hitting facility and lounge. New lights and grandstands. The field is fairly new, about 12 years old. It's very large, 330 down the lines, 375 alleys,400 center w/tall wall, lots of ground to cover.

They play a tough non-conf. schedule with teams from the SEC, MVC, C-USA, Sunbelt, and others.

The program has been hovering around or below .500 the last few yrs. Which is why they made a change at the top.

They do not over recruit. They keep around 30 on the roster.

The school has a beautiful campus. Very clean and safe. They have about 10,000 students and the city is about 18,000.

Only time will tell if the new coaching staff will be successful. Please email me if you have specific questions about the program or school.

coons2004,

It is my understanding that they have signed a P/SS from here in Kentucky. It hasn't been officially posted, so I'm not 100% sure about the information. They will be picking up two left handed pitchers transferring from U. of Kentucky over the Christmas break.

Murry State will rule the OVC in the years to come! Assistant Paul Wychowski is the real deal

Glad to see a commitment by the University to the baseball program. The indoor hitting facility and lights on the field have been needed for many years.

Coach Reagan's baseball program was feared by many back in his day. I know first hand playing against him long ago.

It was nice to see the team rally around coach Thieke before he stepped down. A NCAA appearance and OVC Tournament Championship should be a big lift for the future. It will look good on the recruiting material too!

I've done some reading on coach McDonald and coach Wyczawski and was impressed by what I found out. Is coach Justus Scott from the Middle Tennessee area? Seems like the program has been placed in good hands. Good luck this season in the Ohio Valley Conference! thumb

PS: Murray is a very nice clean town, My Uncle used to be the baseball coach at Calloway County and Murray High a long time ago. I have fond memories of Western Kentucky! Smile

I was born and grew up (until 6th grade) around Murray. My family lives there now. I go down there every summer. Everything posted here about the town is correct. I heard Coach McDonald speak at a clinic recently and I know he is level headed and has a firm vision of where he wants the program to go. Go Luck to the Racers of Murray State.

Justus Scott is a former assistant at LMU. When a coaching change was made at LMU, he was given strong consideration for the head coaching job. He seems to be knowledgeable, and is very personable. If my memory is correct, he is from New York.
