The first game of the Kentucky State Baseball tournament is in the books and the 43rd District has done itself proud again. Lexington Catholic beat South Laurel 5-0 on a combined no hitter from three pitchers, two of whom have played with D on summer teams and all-star teams. Lex Cath will go on to play the winner of the St. Xavier - Daviess County game.

By the way, this now means that over the last 4 years, the 43rd district is 9-1 in State tournament games. . .with 4 different teams representing the district.

John - I just sent you a PM asking for scoop! I figured Cath would win. I really think that it's going to end up Catholic or PRP.

I would like to see Beechwood since Michael's future college teammate is on that team, but not sure they'll get past Christian County.

I would just like to note that in the last 20 years, the 43rd District in Kentucky has won 8 state baseball titles among 5 different teams. (It has also had at least one other championship game appearance as well during that time span) During that time period no other district in Kentucky has had more than one team win. The numbers since 1986: Lafayette 3, Lexington Catholic 2, Tates Creek 1, Dunbar 1, LCA 1.

Are we proud of our Lexington baseball? You bet!

John - The 43rd district is unbelievable when you measure by state wins. If you add in state appearances, I'm sure the number would go even much higher - including our runner up year in 2004. Some good baseball in our area!
