One year after hosting a regional, UK did not make the field of 64, while Louisville makes the tournament for only, I believe, the 3rd time. One thing that the head of the selection committee noted was that strength of non-conference schedule was very important this year, and that some teams from the SEC did not play difficult non-conference schedules, particularly weekend series before the season. Hard to disagree with that when you see that Kentucky did not play a single team that made it to the tournament at all prior to its conference schedule, let alone in a weekend series. The head of the selection committee also mentioned Tennessee and Alabama as teams that also did not play difficult non-conference schedules. To be fair, Louisville only played one team in a weekend series before their conference schedule that made it to the CWS, Stetson, and they also played one game against Kent State, but that's more than Kentucky did.
My question is, for those of us living in the "blue" part of the state, is the tide turning toward Louisville in baseball now too????
TR, it was announced at 12:30 today on a show on ESPN. Louisville is in the Missouri regional, having drawn the unenviable task of starting against Miami.
Hey...just wanted to give my congrats to the Big10 for getting three teams into the tourney this year....Ohio State, Michigan and Minnesota....those out of conference tough games definetly paid off for Michigan and Minnesota.

John, I personally would have given the nod to Louisville over UK this year. I only saw Louisville play once and I realize they lost to UK on their one match up, but I still felt Louisville was the stronger of the two teams. Also, UK lost to Morehead... which lost to Georgetown (last or next to last in the Mid South NAIA conference). They did not have the year this year that they had last year.
I believe that for all schools, their out of conference play will become more and more valuable. It made the difference between a couple of teams making the Basketball 64 too if you remember. I think it's fair... why play a bunch of teams you think will give you an easy W and then cruise to the tourney? Get out there and work for it... I think that's the message teams are being sent. JMO
The SEC only had five teams in the tournament this year... I believe the announcer said they typically have around 8-9. The loss this year was due to out of conference play. Again... a message is being sent to whomever wants to pay attention.

Although I was hoping for Lafayette to make it to Myrtle Beach it was only because I liked the location better.
Facing Virginia and then either Rutgers or Oregon State will be extremely challenging but I like our chances much better in this bracket than had we been slotted for the beach.
Reservations are made, looking forward to some great baseball.

jmepop - thanks for the good wishes. Good luck to Lafayette!
All Myrtle Beach games are on ESPNU for those that may have that channel btw. Clemson Plays St. Johns at noon on Friday and Coastal takes on VCU at 4:00 pm.
Also, a HUGE congrats to RZ1 and the UIC team who won their conference and look to be on their way to California for their regional this weekend. A big pat on the back to Ryan Zink for being named to the all-tournament team for their conference tourney!

Beez - we can use all the fans we can get - at the game or otherwise.
Well...ya got another fan here in Pennsylvania that will be rooting for the Chants! I'm pretty sure the vast majority (if not ALL) the OH/PA/KY/WV posters are adopting Coastal as one of OUR teams! JMEPOP...that goes for Lafayette...and RZ1 you know that I consider UIC one of "my" teams too! And I'm not forgetting Austin Peay either! I'm living vicariously through all of you.
