i have always known myself as a solid line drive hitter however sometimes i battle myself in the mental aspect in my opinion the hardest part of the game. i was wondering how you guys stay relaxed at the plate and/or remain confident

I tell myself I'm going to hit the ball, and tell the pitcher I'm going to hit his next pitch in my head. It puts my confidence up because when I do it, it puts me getting a hit in my head.

Think "If I get a hit, my BA will go up, or it will help my team" NOT "If I strike out, my BA will go down and the team will hate me." See it as oppertunity, not pressure. Also, never let the pitcher get in YOUR head, always try to get into his first.

Think about something completely unrelated to baseball and let you reactions and instinct take over.

If you don't mind may an old warhorse offer some thoughts

The key to hitting is confidence and if you have this you will always be relaxed---the good hitters want to be in the batters box ---step in their thinking you own the pitcher

Step in telling yourself its just like the batting cage. You have to believe the pitcher has no shot at getting you out.

I just go up there, and pump my ego, and say to myself, anything close, any fastball and smacking that ball. I'm gonna take what he gives me, outside pitch- right field (im a righty), inside, left field, etc...

this is the best way i have found to keep me relaxed at the plate. if your right handed put your right foot in the box(left if ur a lefty) relax your bat on your shoulders and close your eyes and take a very deep breath. after the breath when you feel relaxed put your left foot in the box and get ready. if you ever dont feel relaxed why the pitcher is taking his signs just call time. be alive though sometimes the pitcher is taking his sign while your taking a breath so as soon as you step in be ready. This should work it worked for me when i wasnt getting comfortable and i told my center fielder to do it and it worked for him too

well what i usually do when im at the plate, is telling myself in my head, "I am going to hit the ball. Im going to crush it." Something like that, and I also visualize myself as a major leaguer up at bat like David Ortiz or A-Rod, then my body relieves the tension, and BAM...im on base, or im rounding the bases Smile. u just have to tell urself that u are going to do this, that u have the advantage over the other team. it's what usually works for me. hope this post helps.

I usually start off thinking I can handle the pitcher pretty easily. If I get a nice hit, I come back to the box remember that regardless of the last at bat, this time I can either go 0/1 or 1/1 and I treat it like the first at bat.
