While I like the solution to the problem, it doesn't always work too well.

What if he's a right handed batter, but pitches left-handed? Then he should wear one to protect his elbow. I don't personally wear one, but I switch hit and have thought about getting one for my right arm even though I don't pitch. There's a little bit too much bone right there in the elbow to mess up than to have that sort of attitude toward it.

Also, if you were to ask anybody that knows me, they'd be able to tell you that I'm somewhat of a "ball-magnet." Last year alone I got hit in the head twice. Once in the first week of May when we went on the 7 game, 6 day spree I of course took a curve ball to the lip busting the inside of my lip. And of course I had to do it on the 2nd day of the week. 5 stitches later I played 3 days later finally. Two weeks after that, I took a fastball to the back of the head- everybody from Waterloo there freaked out! That fastball didnt hurt nearly as bad as the curveball didSmile

I've only had two "major" injuries. Both sent me to the hospital and both involved the dang baseball colliding with my facial bones. Luckily neither of them were terribly severe.

So, along those same lines, who wears a facemask while batting? Pros? Cons?

i wear an elbow guard...i hate it but it works....i pitch lefty and bat righty so i use it to protect my throwing arm...i have been hit there a handful or more times so it's worthit..
i have an easton model and i got it from a local store...i think you can order one from baseball express or a site similar to that

lefty: is that the easton gen iv??

i got hit a couple of times over the summer and have been bothered by tendinitis in the elbow so i cant fully straighten my elbow. so it hurts to fully extend.

when the pitcher is throwing 90+ you cant always get out of the way.

they are definately not overrated....
I pitch righty and used to hit lefty...
easton z air is probably the best you can get...
i didnt like mine either but there were a couple shots that i took with it that would have been pretty bad on my arm without the arm guard

I think the only way i would wear an elbow guard was if my throwing arm was facing the pitcher. Personally i think they are for girls and kids that are affarid to get hit by the by the ball. Be a man and take one for the team.

What about face masks? What do you think about those? Or should I just "be a man" and take it?

no you shouldn't take it or "be a man" just turn your head so you don't get hit in the jaw.

Curve ball- strike 3.

I took one right off the lip(swelled so quickly coach swore my nose was broken) curve ball that didn't break off. Not like it was a fastball without movement, this curve ball actually move quite a bit earlier in the at-bat.

5 stitches later..

I'm not a big fan of the facemasks either, but I've thought about it. And that comment about "just take it like a man" got to me because that is probably a person who has never taken a fastball off the elbow- it hurts.

Wear the elbow protection and watch how many more times you get hit--you are inciting the pitch

I have seen kids wearing elbow protection (HS age) and some of them have never been hit. Some less than their teammates.

For those pitchers who bat on the opposite side from which they throw, the elbow guard is a good idea for protecting their throwing arm.

in all my years of baseball ive never been hit on the arm. kudos christopher_91, who is right, get outta the way. if you can swing a bat and hit the ball, you should be able to move your body a bit
