Back to the ACL topic. I am getting my ACL reconstructed in January '08. After surgery, do you guys think I can return to sports in time for the '08 baseball season with accelerated physical therapy?..meaning more strenuous exercises and working harder quicker to recover quicker? Because my opinion is that if I do work really hard in therapy and keep exercising my leg constantly, that my leg would recover quicker and that I would be able to return to baseball in 3 months in time for the season, rather than 6 or 7 months. While playing, I would be wearing my custom made brace of course. So any thoughts or ideas about this topic? Thank you in advance.

somervilleboy617,

TALK TO YOUR PHYSIOTHERAPIST AND SURGEON THEY WILL KNOW BEST!

This is a question that can only be answered by a qualified professional.

One of our players tore his ACL during football season (was All-American HS football player and invited walk-on for baseball) and is still not quite at 100%
If you truly tore your ACL and will have re constructive surgery, there is no way you will be back in 3 months. Six months would be the quickest, and even at that, you probably won't be fully 100% for about 9-12 total months.

I must ask, why are you waiting until January of next year to have surgery?

yea, i think i will wait it out. it's the best thing to do as of now. im just soo eager to return next season. i was supposed to have surgery this past may 18th, however financial issues sort of put surgery on hold till next year. if it was up to me, i would've gotten surgery this past may, but it's financially not possible this year, so my parents are scheduling the surgery as soon as possible as of next year.

Listen to an Older guy who has had 7 knee surgeries on the same knee that includes two ACL's. DO NOT DO LIKE I DID!! DO not rush the rehab!! Work hard and get 100% ready before you push it again!! Short term play isn't worth a lifetime of pain. I am 42 and after the last surgery at 34 the doctor said that I had the knee of a 70 year old and the next one is a replacement knee.

Please do not rush it!!

Hustle never has a bad day.

Thank you. I will keep that in mind. I just want to get this surgery over with, make a full recovery, and be at full strength for my senior season. I've already had both my knees operated on for torn ACL's and recently re-tore my left knee's ACL. My right knee has felt even better than before after the surgery, and ACL surgeries are really no big deal since I've gone through it twice.
