I am a 3rd baseman..so you know that a cup at this position is important. I mean you gotta protect the stuff. But the problem I have is that ever pair of sliding shorts that I have used, the cup sticks out the top of where it slides in. Does anybody else have this problem or use a product or something that fixes this problem? Any help please!

Although a cup wouldn't be a bad idea, I've never heard of a third basemen wearing one.

All players should wear cups regardless of the position---take it from one who didnt believe in them at one time

NEVER heard of a 3rd baseman wearing a cup??? wow, i must be living in a different world.

hotcorner, i don't think your cup is fully in your sliding shorts. jam your cup in their and slide it all the way in the slot...

Only a few days ago, a young man on Matt's team slid into second without a cup and took a ball to the balls.

Later that night significant swelling occurred and he went into surgery and came back with only 1/4 of 1/2 of his equipment.

Wear it.

After that, I may start wearing one to the office.

Happened to me batting in HS. Ball in the dirt, took a funny bounce, rode up my leg, the usual agony ensued, felt better and played the rest of the game. 2 days later one of the jewels swelled up the size of a grapfuit. Dad took me to the doctor, he sent me right over to a urologist. When the ball hit it detached my teste from what ever holds it in place. It then twisted and cuttoff the circulation and was dying. I was rushed to emergency surgery and luckely everything went ok. Spent 2 days in the hospital in unbelievable pain. I was back playing two weeks later. Hit the showers after my first game back. My 15 teamates laughed themselves into tears at my new baldness. And also called me twisticle the rest of the season!
Only if I had been wearing a friggen cup!

FIT THE CUP IN THERE AND WEAR IT!

Actually, It wasn't sad at all. I laughed right along with them. They were my teamates ya know!
Point is....where the cup!

For the original poster. Did the cup come with the sliding pants? If not, that could be the problem.
But if you are just having trouble getting it to slide in the pocket try putting Gold Bond Medicated powder on the cup then sliding it in. You can also use baby powder. While your at it, throw a bunch of it on your business...believe me its all good!

hotcorner - Forgive a mom for entering this conversation... but...

If you're having a problem fitting the cup into the shorts, why not just use a strap for your cup and wear over or under your sliding shorts. I know it's an additional thing to mess with, but if it works, that's what's important. Smile

well im a catcher so if the cup is not tight against my body it drives me crazy. put ur cup on the outside of your sliding shorts and wear a jock to hold it on. make sure the joc is tight otherwise the cup will move around. hope this helps

nd besides for catcher i think third base is the position where the cup is most needed, i mean i little league i never wore one cuz i thoguht i would never a miss a ball but trust me once u get hit there once u always wear one

I tried wearing the cup in the sliding short once and I had the same problem. To kind of mirror what lafmom said, the way I went about fixing the problem is to wear the sliding short, then put the cup in a jock strap and put the jock on over top of the slider. Extra layers can be cumbersome, but IMO is much safer that way.

everybody on the field should wear a cup. i mean EVERYBODY. i forgot my cup while umping behind the plate and there was a first time catcher. went right between the kids legs and took a really hard bounce and i think you catch my drift. lets just say that team didnt get a call the rest of the game

Even if you were just kidding, this was a bad choice of words.....not even kidding....dont bring grief down on our fraternity by alluding to any unethical behavior.....

....but here is my advice...if you are going to umpire, get used to being hit with baseballs, its an occupational hazard.....and if you are going to be real umpire, invest in and always wear ALL the protective gear........especially with kid baseball.....

I know that the under armour sliding shorts have a very large area for the cup.

I play center and I don't wear a cup. Yes I realize sooner or later something will happen but until then I trust my glove.
