Ok to start off i crowd the plate. Like toe on the chalk elbow over the plate type of guy. I recently got nailed in the elbow twice last game and i still can't move my elbow. I always laughed at the dudes with the elbow gaurd but i sure noticed why they do now. Its like having a cup. You don't want one until you get hit.

So the question is what are some cheap but very comforable elbow gaurds. Do they limit motion of your swing at all?

I don't think you need an Elbow Guard, but instead how about a faster reaction time? Wink

Seriously though, I'm not sure. I'd say that's a personal decision and I'm not sure about any type of rules that there are for it. I considered a few years ago going to a facemask or a cheek extension for my batting helmet after taking one in the face. Two weeks later I took one off the back of the helmetWink

I had a kid a few years back that toed up as well and actually hit with his elbow over the plate. He got hit 11 times his sr year. After the fourth or fifth time he got an elbow guard because his arm was so sore. His on base % was out the roof. Usually people would throw inside because he was all over the plate. When they missed over the plate he hammered the ball. When they missed inside he just took it and reached on a hbp. And when they pitched him away it really was like getting a pitch down the heart. He got called back to the plate twice that year because the ump said he was over the plate when he got hit. But the fact is most umpires at the HS level will not make this call. The guy was fearless and this approach really worked for him. He took alot of pride in taking one for the team. It was part of his niche so to speak. By the way the kid was a really good hitter.
