My son started his speed training at 11, he was a slightly better than average runner. He is now 15 and can run extemely well.

I hope, I can get this clip up, because it may help someone else. If you watch closely his running mechanics are very good. (He is #2)

This Year he ran 6.77 60yard timed by and at his speed school. In Fl. at the JO east he ran 6.90

15yr old sub 7 60yard dash

How much time was spent in speed training? How many months in a year and how many days a week?
I have a 13yo and we are thinking of doing something like that. He's a good hitter but it looks like pitching may be his thing, so I'm kind of wondering how much this would benefit him. I'd think that any kind of explosive training with his lower body and legs would be great for pitching as well as a position player.

I agree, speed, agility and strength training is what all players can benefit from.

The key was/is the off seasons. That is where most of the time is put in. From Oct. to now Feb. since the season starts in Mar. Off season normally try to get three days, one for strength, another linear speed and last one a change of direction. Core work all three days.

Played Football this past season, but not this up coming one, so he has to workout on his own this fall.

Now during season it is maintenence, at least once a week, try for two.

The key is finding the right trainer(s) and/or facility.
A key is having a place to run indoors not only during the winter, but any bad weather
since we live in the NE.
