Depends on what you consider core work. Unfortunately, this has become more of a marketing term and to some, means "balancing" on a wobble board or doing silly exercises. I am not saying this is what you meant, just clearing up for some. Please name exercises and I can help from there.

I read somewhere at one point or another that putting a hockey puck on your stomach and breathing in and out making your stomach go up and down helps your core. For reference, it's been awhile. I just remember that part.

Those will not do much for performance. And, if done everyday, will lead to severe muscular imbalance. Stick to squats, deadlifts, cleans, windmills, home run presses, etc for core development.
