I am having trouble clearing and blocking out stuff in my mind when I step into the batter's box. I am a sophmore at a JC in CA. I was my own wurst enemy my freshman year. I soon had trouble sleeping and being able to hit the long ball, like I am used to doing. Is there anyway to condition my mind and be able to clear it, not think about anything...

It sounds like you have become a bundle of nerves and are probably looking for your pitch to hit each at bat and are not getting what you used to see. Don't focus on the power aspect so much and learn to plan each at bat for the game situation that you are in before you step in. For example: R1 with less than 2 outs in a close game. What pitch would best benefit moving R1 to second? If you are RH something on the outer third to poke or drive to right and if LH something in to pull or outer edge to go down 3rd base line. It sounds like you may be doing your thinking after you step into the box. When you get in all you should be worrying about is picking the ball up out of the hand and then going with the pitch. The quality of play has improved and you have got to leave the ghost of the last pitch or at bat out of the equation and dwell on the present. Work with your coach on relaxing techniques. Best of luck this season.

Brandon,

You might want to look into buying

The Mental Game of Baseball A Guide to Peak Performance

By H.A. Dorfman and Karl Kuehl

ISBN # 1-888698-54-3

It's a great book that has helped many major league ball players and college players, I'm one of them that has benefitted from this book.

Hope it helps!

I never threw an illegal pitch. The trouble is, once in a while I toss one that ain't never been seen by this generation
