Anyone know of any good SPARQ specific training to improve SPARQ times. How are the times done? What do they have you do?

You run a

60 yd (not sure if its part of but we did in AZ)

40 yd dash

Power ball (you throw a 10lb medicine ball like you swing a bat)

Vertical Leap (jump on a map thats up with 2 feet and down with 2 feet, no step.)

No, the medicine ball is thrown while on your knees straight out in front of your chest as hard as you can for distance.

and then the real killer is the short sprints back and forth on a timed beep (recorded tape) until nobody is left (1 by 1 athletes drop out until there is one).....grueling.

Hmm yours was different than it was the the Arizona Fall Classic. Thats the one that i did most recent, which was in October 2007.

Ive done both of those (not for the Sparq training) but in things at school. The sprint on beep for a period, i believe its called the "Pacer Test." But maybe im mistaking, we do at school in P.E. something dang similar in its 100ft run down, Beep, Run back, Beep, Run back and you go as far as you can and you pace it so that you can make it. The end is 145 or something the best that i got in gym was 95. But im definently not the running person.

Man, those sound hard too. SPARQ is catching on. Here is a web-site with some cool info. Watch the intro and it shows the SPARQ tests.

The sparq test is nice but it was my first time ever doing it and on top of that i had just played a double header and the AZ heat was not very kind considering by home here in Alaska i was used to 30's and 40's in october. But i made it through. I got the "Hit the Weight Room" rating on the mens side, but that was after all of the above. It may be an excuse, but i see the results being skewed since some teams did it without playing a game yet.

This then shows a medial percentage error in you data.

But all in all i think the sparq is a decent test of you athletic ability. But it has no presentation to real baseball scenario.

No direct application to baseball but a kinetic lineage to baseball --- shuttle (infielder's lateral movement), the weighted power-ball throw (core strength), 30 yard dash (sheer speed to first base).

It is not fair that you had to do a double-header prior to doing the test. That is brutal. How did you get from Alaska to Arizona? That had to be an expensive flight round-trip. Was it Alaskan Airlines?...they seem to be a bit more affordable.

The airline we flew on is blanking me. American Air maybe? But it was an Alaska State team. Alaska Baseball Academy thats who i was with. Are programs up here are mainly American Legion. The only travel comp team is ABA and its an invite from the coach or tryout at a MLB scouted function. Are coach is an MLB Scout, he scouts the Alaska League during the summer which is college level fellas playin up here. Some big name came through there, and alot of guys love to play in the 24 hour daylight :O.
