Pitching endurance involves a lot more than running poles and sprints.

You don't mention what kind of shape you are in but a good start would be.

1. 2 weeks of running a couple of miles to build up some basic leg strength. (3-4 x per week)

2. Switch to 2 miles of sprints, (on your HS track) alternate 100's, 150's, and 40,s three times per week. Walk between sets until you have recovered, do these until you have put in two miles of walking and sprint combinations.

3. Get a good core workout started. Add in leg lifts with olympic lifts as it's center piece of the work out.

4. Start a long toss program with bands. Check out www.jaegersports.com if you don't know what to do. Start this 2 x per week for a few weeks, go to 3 x per week, then 5 x per week.

If you start ALL of this NOW you will be in decent shape for season start in Feb/March.

Good advice from BOF...

Alos, MUCH better than running (and can also be done in conjunction with) for pitchers is General Physical Preparation or GPP.

Search previous posts for info.

i am in decent shape i do core workouts(just started), i lift every body part once a week and i do rotator cuff exercises too. I am going to do what you said cuz i throw like 73-78 consistently and probably hit 80 every noe and then only throwing on sundays so if i get a strong core and throw everyday i should be throwing harder for my college season in march. I am a lefty so i dont need to throw hard but the harder the better i guess cuz i have great location and 4 pitches i can throw for a strike.

To get into great shape, I find myself not running just one distance, over and over. One week might be a long distance week, where the week after that will be a sprinting week. You have to change it up, week to week.
