I'm a college baseball player and I'm currently taking muscle milk after I work out. I was wondering if I should be taking any other protein powders or something different. What are your guys thoughts... is there a really good protein to take thats legal?

I dont like the protein powders, they are expensive. I've had a friend take creatine or something and I told him he would pee blood, but he didnt believe me. 3 months on it and it happened.
I like trail mixes, nuts and stuff because it has a lot of protein, cheap, easy to carry and snack on all day.

LA that is rediculous. Creatine has been discussed here many many times and no one ever mentioned peeing plood. My son took it and gained muscle and weight going from 167 to 188 lbs. It is one of the most studied substances on earth. If taken properly it can help put on weight and up your workout. My son hasn't taken it in over a year and after losing a few pounds has gone up to 192lbs. AC be careful who you get advice from on the internet. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist. We did and they all said if taken properly it was safe. There is tons of research so google Creatine and read for yourself.

There is less concern today than there used to be about possible kidney damage from creatine, although there are reports of kidney damage, such as interstitial nephritis. Patients with kidney disease should avoid use of this supplement.

If you do a search on "Creatine" and "Protein" on this section you can find all kinds of past posts with some good information on creatine and proteins. Jon Doyle will have some recommendations on the right stuff to use and since you are in college you should also check out the NCAA web site on recommended diet supplements.

If creatine made you pee blood, then so would eating meat...
If you have a pre-existing kidney or organ issue, then yes, ANYTHING can cause a problem. So always check with your doctor.
If you can get all of your protein from food, then you don't need powder. But if you can't, powder becomes needed, especially if you are training and practicing hard.
Best brands are ProtoWhey & Beverly Nutrition. Muscle Milk is solid as well.
All proteins are legal. However, back in the day there were some rumors (which are pretty much true) that first runs of some proteins, such as Met-Rx, were spiked with illegal substances.
But you are not going to find that today with large brands such as MuscleMilk, Beverly, etc.
I've been talking muscle milk after i work out. I'm trying to put on some wait as well as muscle. I just picked up that EAS100% whey protein powder any thoughts on that?

I used to use EAS proteins back in the 90's. But after Phillips sold & EAS went mainstream, seems as though they began using cheaper proteins.
I cannot digest EAS proteins any longer and feel very bloated after taking them. This is a sure sign the quality is not good. However, if you are able to digest and it tastes good to you, then go ahead and use it.
Is it better to drink shakes and powders? I just try to eat foods with protein in it (turkey breast, protein bars, peanut butter sandwiches) right after I work out and also throughout the day. Should I start drinking the protein stuff?
I am 5'11 185 lbs, but trying to get up to 195 lbs.

Catch 43.. You can get protein from those sources and i like protein bars myself, but it is much easier to get the protein you need from a powder without as much fat.. Also eggs are a great source. You can get cartons of just liquid egg whites for pretty cheap.

When I pitched in college and pro ball, I always tried to eat "real" protein food sources first -- tuna, fish, chicken, peanut butter, etc. But when these weren't available, there's no question that powders were a convenient option.
I agree with John Doyle ... EAS isn't a favorite. I always felt Muscle Mike tasted the best. But Advocare's POS line was my ultimate favorite for its combination of creatine, protein and taste.
