Not sure a certain lift can help improve bat speed.I think everyone is born with a certain amount of fast twitch muscles, which you can improve upon, but not change drastically.I think its more so getting your hands through the zone then anything.

I think overall core strength would really help.Strong forearms cant hurt either.

so basically you're saying that hard work doesn't help the bat speed or the way you put it, fast twitch? I always wondered about that. For example, players like Gary Sheffield have incredible bat speed. I guess you're saying that it can't be taught which makes sense. Some are just born with a sling-shot and others' swings look like dog doo-doo and never make it to the major leagues.

Well... your body has its "maximum potential"

When you are working out, you are training to reach this "maximum potential".

Why doesn't everyone in the world win the worlds strongest man competitions? Because of "maximum potential".

You can only go so far as to reach "Maximum potential."

Yes, I coined the phrase, "maximum potential."

Now on to batspeed: I've heard that over under training works. Just take regular swings... first 15 w/ regular bat. Than, 15 with 2-3 oz heavier bat. Than 15 w/ 2-3 oz lighter. Than 15 w/ regular bat. Do that every day for 2-3 weeks or so, and some improvement should be there.

Also, don't get caught up in batspeed. Batspeed increase is good, but don't sacrifice your mechanics to do so.

dont pick select words from my post to prove a false point

I said overall core strength could likely improve bat speed.I think every person is born with a certain amount of fast twitch muscles, which can be improved upon, but not altered greatly.I think hand speed can be improved upon, which should be the goal of each hitter. If you,as a hitter, can get your hands through the zone on a level plane, you can make up for bat speed.

hard work has never met a bad day.You are talking to a guy who has tried to fix his slow hands his entire HS career.

Work your abs, legs and your core for more batspeed. This helps you get your explosive strength to explode your hips and start your swing. The swinging of heavier bats does a little bit, but only a little bit of batspeed over a long time. Depending on how old you are also, you can grow to gain more batspeed.

Simple Physics for a swing:

You have a restricted swivel: your hips and upper body (restricted meaning that you have a restricted range of motion).
You have X number of inches to get your bat from 0-(anywhere from 90-110+ mph at major league level) and to stop it within the Y number of inches.
You need muscle to start an object, you need muscle to stop an object.

These muscles are your abs, your quads, your glutes, your lats, your Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (forearms), and your triceps brachi (chances are there are more.)

This physics analysis also applies to throwing also.

fc, if you were refering to me... than, you are talking to a guy who gets tired after 5 swings in a row, because I am fast twitch.

was referring to switch hitter, not you rays

He tried to say that I said hard work wont improve it.Im saying hard work will help, but to focus on quick hands, which can improve slow bat velocity speed
