You have to rest it until it gets better. The big issue is correcting the problem. Is it mechanical? Do you have muscular imbalance? Get to the root of the problem and correct it or you will continue to have problems and chances are high they will become more serious. I would get to a Physical Therapist and figure it out.

Listen to this guy! Just resting it will help the pain go away but there is a huge chance it will come right back once the activity is started again. Go see a PT or a Chiropractor. They know musculoskeletal, not MDs. They just give a pain killer and say rest it, this may work okay for non-active people but it is worthless for an athlete.
