What is a good time for running 90 feet for a first baseman? I run it in 4.8 seconds, is that slow, average?

Thanks for any help

yea that is pretty slow. It seems like a good number for 1B is around a 7.2 60 yard dash. I would look into seeing a track or speed coach to help you with your speed

Regardless of how fast or slow you are, you'll be amazed at what a good track coach can do for your speed.

We have a kid who plays on one of our teams that is (or was) very slow. Now, after working once a week for a couple months with a track coach, he just came back from a two week tournament and I found out that he had 10 stolen bases! The quality of competition he faced was good, he has just done a lot to improve his running, and it is paying off.

With a 4.8, my hopes for you are that 1 - you are a righthanded hitter and 2- you can hit the ball a mile!

Speed can be improved. If you're in peak physical condition at 4.8, the improvement could be marginal. I believe average MLB speed is 4.3 from the right side and 4.1 from the left, just as a point of reference.

Good luck.

1stbase1528, how old are you? 4.8 is pretty slow if you're an older player, but if you're a freshman or even younger, that time is a bit slow but not as bad as if you're a junior or senior.

1stbase1528,

Not a problem. Just keep working on the skills you are already good at and work really hard on the skills where you feel you need improvement. Everything will fall into place for you. Best of luck and keep working!
