I am looking for a summer team at the collegiate level (19 and up) to play for?

I have college experience and may transfer to butler to see more of the field during sophomore year

Alot of summer college baseball teams are filling their rosters fast. These teams may or may not want a current coaches' recommendation before considering you and offering a spot on their roster. Try checking out the various team's websites and see if they are accepting or looking for players, with questionaires/applications. I also recommend checking the Summer Collegiate Baseball Association's website, as they have several summer leagues you could look at.

If you're presently in college, talk to your coach for a reference and see if he has some contacts for summer teams. He may already want to place you somewhere and you don't want to mess with his planning for you on a team that has already kept a roster spot open that he has negotiated.

It has been my experience that many teams will take another player even in late spring. Many guys back out and unless they are over loaded they will take guys late. My son's team had 4 guys laeve after showing up. Not exactly sure why. Also had a couple show up after season started. The majority of the players were low inning guys who were freshnen or low inning sophs.
Some leagues require a coach recommendation but most do not.

Patience is key when it comes to playing collegiate summer baseball. I psent two summers coaching in these leagues (Northwoods and NYCBL) and normally about 60% of the guys you sign to contracts in the fall actually play for you in the summer. There are a variety of reasons for this, but primarily it boils down to kids have to take summer school, injuries and coaches will shut down a pitcher that throws more innings in the spring than initially anticipated. It is not at all uncommon for a team to scramble to bring in players as late as one week into the summer season. Be persistent with places you want to play for, continually email the manager or general manager with your desire to play and chances are you will find your way onto that roster.
