Hi, I'm with the US govt - Yongsan Army Base - over here in Seoul - and will be for the foreseeable future. In fact, my kids have basically grown up here. We do, however, get to spend our summers - from late June to mid-August - in the States. My oldest is 13 1/2, and a good ballplayer. We do have a competitive, albeit small, Pony League over here and myself and a couple other USFK guys put together the first-ever US-Korea Goodwill FallBall league this past autumn. (The Korean kids are awesome by the way - they work out six days a week, year-round - scary). So, our kids do have some good opportunities to play good baseball. BUT, I'd love to see him play summer ball when we're back in the States. I have no access to info over here, so I turn to you all! How does it work? Would any summer team ever pick up a kid who will show up around June 26th or so? My boys went to camp last summer (TBI in Ephrata, WA) and would like to go to the Yavapai NIKE Camp summer 2004 (their Uncle Dave played there) - but camps are 4-5 days and we'd sure like a whole summer season. Any ideas? I appreciate, in advance, all suggestions/opinions/advice!

Harbormom, Good Question! We start piecing our summer plans together around February. But we always spend some time in the Tacoma area and could easily get around to anywhere in KingCo. My older had a wonderful pitching mentor at TBI last summer - I 'thought' he said his name was Coach Jacobs from White Salmon, but when I've tried to find him at White Salmon's website, there's no Jacobs. Anyway, he was very high on Tristan's abilities and that really encouraged the lad. It kind of bummed me out at the same time, knowing he won't have that 'traditional' high school / summer ballplaying situation. But we have to forge ahead! Seoul Amer. HS does have a team which plays very high level Korean teams (you'll see a few of these Korean kids in the MLB when/if they can legally and politically make the jump - look for a catcher, especially - wish I could remember his name), and they also travel to Japan for the Kanto Plains Tournament. But it's just much more difficult! A kid from our high school is now playing at PLU, as a matter of fact - Chester Broyles. Well, I'm getting tangential! It's just so nice to be able to TALK to people about this situation of ours!! Are there quite a few summer league opportunities? I'm mainly concerned about the timing. It seems like most summer leagues start in early June - and we can get back until late June........

In our area summer teams are typicaly decided in the fall prior to the upcoming season. However, I can't think of any coaches that aren't always looking for pitching. Perhaps you could go to eteamz.com? and start searching for teams in a particular area, usssa, aau etc.etc. They list age groups and some of these sites have quite a bit of info regarding coaches numbers and email address. It sounds like your summer stay is mainly on the west coast? When does your son turn 14 yrs. old? If he turns 14 before Aug. 1 of 04, he would then play on a U14 team. If he turns 14 after, then he is a U13.
I coach a U13 team, called the Tidewater Drillers. We have players from Va. Beach, VA to Richmond, VA. If not U13, I have plenty of contacts for U14 teams. Send me a PT (private topic).

for the family heading to Washington. I would check out a great program called the Seattle A's. I do not have their website, but I'm sure someone here will be able to post it. That program does a great job working with and showcasing players.
If Far East would say where in the state they are going, I'm sure there will be some teams in their area as well.
